Drugstore Cowboy has become a monthly staple, not only because of the good vibes and movie-themed decor (hence the name)... but because of the (FREE!) monthly "Perfectly Sane People" comedy show. (Also, I'm sure the bar has been getting TikTok famous or something).
With how expensive pretty much everything in the city is, it's so nice to have something that's just good vibes, good food, and good laughs. The bar is the perfect venue for the PSP show, and the show itself is an ideal mix of established talent, up-and-coming comics, and internet-famous comedy darlings (including Ify Nwadiwe?!). I didn't realize how big comedy was in LA (sketch, improv, and stand-up), but this show was one of my first introductions to the LA comedy scene. No complaints from me. I'll definitely go back next month.
When the bar is full (including their back patio area with arcade games and pool tables), the place ends up feeling less stuffy and crowded than it does exciting and electric. Did I mention that there's plenty of seating? There is PLENTY of comfortable seating for sports games, the comedy show, weekly trivia (!!), and general vibes.
Anyway, there's much to ramble on about... some see the show, see the bar, get some monthly laughs (or cries) in, discover some new comics, have a drink, watch a movie (which are always playing on one of their 6 TVs), fall in love, play a game-- whatever floats your boat :) It's all here, live from Silverlake... It's...
Read moreJust strolled into Drugstore Cowboy for the first time, and let me tell you, it was an absolute blast! The service was top-notch, and the bartenders? Oh, they were like the friendly neighborhood superheroes of the bar scene—super kind and incredibly attentive!
Now, don’t let the “sports dive bar” label fool you; this place is definitely a step up from your usual hangout. The food? Think restaurant-level deliciousness but with a sportsy twist. I tried the pasta alla burrata, and folks, they didn’t just sprinkle some cheese on top; they crowned my dish with an entire fresh burrata ball! Everything is made fresh, and I was pleasantly surprised by how good the wings were—no greasy aftermath, just pure heat.
Matthew, the bartender, was an absolute gem. He’s from Dublin and has the cutest accent that could charm anyone! Plus, he truly cares about making your day better. He even whipped up a mean Irish goodbye for me—an espresso martini with Irish whiskey. Trust me, it was so good!
The vibe of the place is a perfect blend of cozy dive and upscale charm. To a of friendly locals. Oh, and can we talk about the art on the walls? So dope! I also discovered they’ve got Karaoke Wednesdays and Trivia Tuesdays lined up, plus two shiny new pool tables that we took full advantage of all night long.
Honestly, I’m so glad I wandered in—this place is...
Read moreThis spot has so much potential to be great! I love the simple design and vibrant decor. The openness feels inviting and conducive to socializing. I like the La Catina style windows along the sidewalk seating area.
We visited on their 2nd night of opening. It was a Sunday after 11pm. There were only a handful of patrons.
Service was good.
We reviewed the menu and it is extensive. We did not order food. From what I recall, Texas chili was the main attraction; however, there were wings, nachos, and handheld items on the menu.
Parking was easy and plentiful.
My only drawback was the music. The playlist was random and all over the place—it didn’t do much to create or maintain a vibe. Some songs made me sleepy—don’t get me wrong, I love Yacht Rock, but it made me ready for bed. I hope they invest in having DJs who can “read the room” and enhance the ambiance and vibe. Better the music, the longer I stay and...
