I was very excited for a long time to visit this historical landmark library build by Andrew Carnegie in 1916. It's a spectacular Italian Italian Renaissance building, a strong reminder of a beautiful past in LA.
I went there and took some pictures with my iPhone of the building outside and inside, until .... there was this young librarian, whom I have said politely: "I hope you don't mind if I take a pictures with my iPhone?". And here I received lots anger, very sick kind of anger, he just exploded immediately, I don't know how this kind of mentally unstable person or drug addict can work at public library where kids running around, I wouldn't take my child there. He was super rude, I haven't seen this level of rudeness in so many years, it was really frustrating and dangerous. That is how I felt and I left!
I visited few LA's Public Libraries it was always good experience and polite stuff, department of Public Libraries should seriously reconsider and pay more attention who they hiring otherwise people just going to stop visiting libraries and only homeless people going to hangout there. If we want LA to be a good city, we have to make changes, please...
Read moreThey just don't have a good amount of books to get 4 stars. It's good though that they do have a good amount of comic books in the collected Trade Paperback format/graphic novel format (though they also have some comic books in the original comic book format, actual comic books), and a large children's book section (too large? 😅 ha, well let's say they need to devote more room to adults as well). I also noticed that a number of books that they had only 10 years ago are missing...I'm sure many were stolen (and/or one or more librarians are conveniently withdrawing certain books from the library, then selling them online for some pocket money on the side; I don’t believe that all the missing books were withdrawn simply because they don’t have enough space). They need to do something about that. An advantage to them though, they have ample parking while the Wilshire Branch has no parking, and the Fremont branch has tiny parking. Pio Pico/Koreatown branch has even more parking, but they're not so close to...
Read moreTruly frustrating how little support these places have for regular tax paying adult. The librarian should be fired. Now, I understand the average American adult barely ever steps into a library, and even though LA (and more so as one moves into more backward, traditional parts of the city like this) is unfortunately closer to to that than other metropolises such as nyc and San Francisco, still leaving three desks in one little area and reserving two large sections for children and teens (and separately so) are ridiculous especially when none of these areas have a single seat/desk in use.
I feel disgusted and cheated especially as somebody who pays higher taxes than possibly 90% of los angelenos. And don’t have or have any desire to produce children to get the return on my...
