We moved to Highland Park 14 years ago based on our apartment’s proximity to El Pique. Technically we owe El Pique our gratitude for not only for making the finest tacos in LA, but also helping us to find affordable rent controlled housing (we still live in the same apartment). I’ve been vegetarian for almost two decades now and El Pique makes THE BEST vegetarian tacos and THE BEST red salsa in all of the land. My husband who eats meat, orders mainly veggie tacos or their veggie quesadilla. If you haven’t had their veggie quesadilla, you need to get right and order it—no veggie quesadillas is better (if you order during day tho, ask for no lettuce). Their horchata and Champurrado are yummy too. On top of all of this, everyone who works here is a lovely person, they make us smile every time.
El Pique is so beloved among our friends, that we did a band photo shoot in front of the truck and then we introduced El Piq to other musician friends, and they also did a photo shoot there. Again, they’re the best, go there.
We love you El Pique,...
Read moreI had the chicken burrito and an orange Fanta. This Fanta is the way to go because I prefer the use of sugar cane over high fructose corn syrup any day. The use of sugar cane gives the soda more flavor, whereas high fructose corn syrup doesn't taste like much. The burrito has meat, rice, beans and salsa. I chose chicken. The chicken wasn't too tough and had a lot of flavor in of itself. They made it so that it wasn't particularly dry, which is always a plus. The slight burnt parts added to the overall flavor of the entire burrito, and the hot red salsa that they use tops it off. The salsa is one of the better salsas I've had, probably in the top 20 in my books. My brother had the vegetable tacos and said it gotten better, he loves the fact that they are one of the only taco stand that puts avocado in their taco. I would have to agree that this is definitely the way to go. I...
Read moreThis truck has been parked at York and Avenue 53 for a decade or more. I don't know what their hours are, but I have never driven by when it wasn't there. The vegetarian burrito ($8.50) is a hefty thing and primo; the red sauce spicy and blissful. I have never encountered a line that was more than a couple of people. They should update the menu, where meat is spelled "meet" a few times. Even for English as a second language, that's a boo-boo that needs to be corrected. Yes, it appears I am the moron who wants to correct taco truck menu...
