Emile’s Pastry & Cafe — Restaurant in Los Angeles

Very disappointing experience - poor quality, bad attitude, and completely misleading. I recently visited Emile's Pastry & Cafe, expecting the charm and quality that the name once carried. Unfortunately, what I experienced was far from it - it seems a new team has taken over, but what they've done is simply copy the name without keeping the soul or standards. Low-Quality Pastries & Foul Smells The pastries were visibly stale, tasted off, and honestly left me with an upset stomach. The entire café had a strong smell of eggs and cigarette smoke, which was extremely unpleasant and far from the clean, fresh bakery experience you'd expect. The cake I tried had a weird aftertaste and felt anything but fresh - I genuinely worry about their storage practices. Untrained Barista & Cold Coffee I ordered a coffee, and the barista clearly had no understanding of basic coffee drinks. The temperature of the drink was completely wrong - lukewarm and flat. When I politely brought it up, a man I believe to be the manager (tied-back hair, aggressive attitude) raised his voice at me instead of helping. The way he spoke to me was shockingly rude and unprofessional. Microwave Meals & Unhygienic Practices What's worse, I noticed their hot food was reheated in a microwave, and it tasted just as bad - dry, bland, and reheated. Nothing felt freshly made. For a place that presents itself as a café and patisserie, this was a complete letdown. Final Thought: This is not the Emile's it once was. If you value good service, fresh pastries, and a clean café environment - look elsewhere. What I experienced here felt like a cheap imitation hiding behind a known name. I left with nausea and disappointment.

My wife and I had an appalling experience today.

We walked in and were not greeted or acknowledged by the one person working. For about 5 minutes she was preparing drinks for someone else when she eventually turned around and asked if we were ready. She walked over to the register and we couldn’t believe our eyes. She literally looked topless. After a few seconds we realized she was wearing a tiny skin-colored bra (and that’s it) but it was still shocking. I understand wanting to show off your body especially in a city like LA but it was a bit ridiculous and definitely unprofessional.

We asked her some questions about the menu About half of the options were not available. We pay and I realize after the fact that there is a 3.9% fee for using a credit card. Whatever, as long as the food is good I thought.

We spent about 30 minutes waiting for 2 extremely basic sandwiches. There were only 6 people in the cafe including us. Finally the food comes out and one of the sandwiches is wrong. The worker got it mixed up with another sandwich I had asked about, even though when charging me she rung me up correctly. What I paid for was more expensive than what she brought me. When I asked her about the mix-up she got defensive and accused me of changing my mind. It’s not my fault that the entire menu is missing and you can’t remember a simple order. Figure out your business instead of getting mad at your customers that are receiving poor service.

After all the wait, the sandwiches were nothing special. The ingredients were the same as what’s at the supermarket. The amount of meat on them was paltry. Just not worth the time or money at all.

Their pastries are DIVINE here. SO delicious. Their cream puff pastry really hit the spot and tasted EXACTLY how one would expect. Really creamy and rich filling but also light and airy dough, which is so complementary. 💟

The service was wonderful. The people here are very nice and have good interactions with customers, which makes it an even more positive experience.

Their prices are so fair. Really liked that as well. Not overpriced like a bunch of other places nowadays.

Please give them your business. The business is local, new and small, with hard working, good people. They are such nice individuals and are experts at their craft. This new establishment definitely deserves your business and you will certainly not be disappointed---promise.

We will be going back for their other food items that looked really good, like Chicken Quiche, Salad Olovieh and Sandwiches.
