I love supporting vegan & GF businesses which is why I gave 3 stars instead of 2, but I have to be honest in my feedback because I’d hate for a non-vegan to try these baked goods and then presume “all” vegan/GF places are of this quality.
The carrot cake cupcake was aesthetically-pleasing (w a cute carrot design on the top) but it was fairly dry & crumbly (which I know can be a tendency of gluten-free items – but if I can make an extremely moist cake at all times that is gluten-free then I’m pretty sure a bakery should be capable of achieving this). It also didn’t consist of much shredded carrot at ALL nor spices or other ingredients you would expect in a carrot cake (eg raisins or walnuts). It was akin to eating a dense vanilla cupcake, with little bits of carrot embedded.
The Tiramisu was tasty (well, 7.5/10 tastewise) but it was essentially a denser sponge cake with a cream-like icing that was “not” reminiscent of the light mascarpone cream you should expect. It had the expected appearance of a Tiramisu, and the icing was dusted w coffee powder, but if the cake part of the tiramisu was coffee-soaked at all (as it ought to be) you really couldn’t tell; it tasted more like a plain vanilla cake. 😐
The maple doughnut was tasty and fairly fluffy, but people who haven’t had a vegan GF doughnut need to be aware it is basically a cake in a doughnut shape.
I’d understand this level of quality if these cakes were half the price, but given the small square of Tiramisu was ~$12.00, cupcake was almost $7, the doughnut was $5 …this was definitely not worth it.
If you’re looking for a better vegan/GF bakery I would definitely recommend visiting Toluca Bakery out in the Valley! They are a no-frills, fully vegan bakery that have sooo many GF options and for a lesser price than Erin McKenna’s which at this point seems to be all about the name than the legitimate quality of the items. Just my very honest, opinionated...
Read moreI had a terrible experience with this place. They charged me $85 over the phone because they only had one chocolate cake left and I was on my way to my brother's B-day party. I asked them to write a Happy B-Day and they messed up the writing and once I got there they lied that we thought you pre-order the cake for tomorrow. They didn't bother to call we don't have a professional person writing it, so is it okay to do it or not? I would say please don't. Then, the oil got through the pink box and it was so embarrassing to give it to my brother. His name: Max was spelled so messy. The worse of it all was dealing with the bakery afterwords. I took the cake back to the store and they refuse to provide refunds as they said the manager is gone for the day. It's best for me to take a picture and email them. I did that and it took 7 days to get back to me and that's after I called several times to the store following up and saying I never got a response to my email. Finally, one of the managers got back to me very short, rude saying all sales are finals and this was a complementary service. Not taking responsibility for their staff messing up and apologizing that they ruined the moment for me to celebrate my brother's birthday. I would never shop there ever again. They are all about money, Terrible service and staff are not professional and can't get a manager to call me or email me back. I never suggest this place and I would never shop there again. I would have not written the review if they at least tried to call me right a way, or offer a replacement or try to take responsibility. The worse customer...
Read moreWorst customer service. I placed an order two days prior for a vegan and gluten free pumpkin pie for a Friendsgiving, when I arrived they had it sealed and packed for me. Later when I pull out the dessert, they gave me the wrong pie and I got an apple crisp instead. Completely wrong pie and my girl friend couldn’t Even eat it due to an allergy. Really disappointed. It was too late to call as they were closed so I called the first thing the next morning.
Linda the manager first tried to reprimand me as to why I didn’t call sooner and didn’t offer any sort of apology or seemed concerned at all and finally offered me a $45 gift card to come back. I asked for a refund as they gave me the completely wrong order and said I shouldn’t have to pay for a pie I didn’t want and she said that Erin McKenna herself told her she could only offer me a gift card to come back. And that’s completely un acceptable.
I refuse to give them any more business after how rude and careless they were. And it really makes me wonder what precautions they take against COVID-19 and what sanitary conditions they operate under if they don’t Even care to check the orders or rectify a situation where they were in the wrong. The least they could do is take ownership and not throw the fault back on me. I will never shop here again. And to top it off the apple pie was dry, over cooked and...
