I've waited a couple weeks to write this in the hopes that I would feel better and could give a better review. It didn't happen. Let me start by saying that up until 10 years ago when I moved to the South Bay from the neighborhood this was my go-to Deli. I was there at least once a week. Even pre-covid when I didn't live in the area I'd still managed to place an order at least once every couple months when I was in the area. The quality of the food and their Sky High sandwiches is what kept me coming back. Two weeks ago on Monday I was in the neighborhood for an appointment and decided to stop and get a pastrami on rye. I called the restaurant to order and asked if the reuben and the Sky High sandwiches were the same size in terms of amount of meat. I was told they were so I ordered the Reuben minus the sauerkraut. When I arrived to pick up the sandwich the cashier showed me the size of it which was a third of what it used to be. It was $26.50 for something that should have been about $16.. when I saw the sandwich I told the woman that I didn't want to purchase it that it was a complete waste of money and not worth what they were charging. She said to me that it was already made and I had to take it. I felt completely ripped off. I understand that Deli is more expensive than other places but Brents Deli in the Valley is still giving sandwiches that are actually Sky High sandwiches and their prices are lower. While the pastrami quality was decent the size of the sandwich for what they were charging was completely out of proportion and I wish I had refused the order and walked out. Also their little 2 bite side of macaroni salad was not the macaroni they used to make and it was awful. They have some nerve calling that a side... They've lost a customer that has been going there for over 30 years. They need to reduce their prices and increase their portions. There is no excuse for this huge disappointment. I would encourage people to find other solutions. Too bad Jerry's and Juniors are closed but it's a matter of time before another Deli opens up and hopefully provides real...
Read moreMy first time and had the worst experience visiting this place . I came here with my elderly patient , she’s 92 yrs old. She wanted to make some purchases for her Jewish even she plan to have. As we got inside the Deli , we waited a few minutes to see who would asked us if we needed help we continue waiting and started approaching each employees a total of 8 rude employees never greeted us , ignored us , brushed us off quickly saying I’m busy i’m busy i’m busy that’s all we heard . We continue patiently waiting by this time we’ve been in the store for 45 mins, watch 4 or more customers walk in got assisted and left , we were deliberately being ignored . I saw two ladies behind the cash register , so i went over and asked for help and told them both my elderly disabled patient needs help and how long we been waiting here for almost 1 hr now , as i watch all these rude disrespectful employees ignored her as she keep asking for some assistance. The elderly lady behind the cash register with short hair name is Debbie. She aggressively and intimidatingly came from around the cash register and started yelling out loud while approaching me , got all way up in my face screaming in my face to get out of the Deli if i don’t shut up , told her i am not leaving without my patient while she was still yelling and being extremely loud and unprofessional to her customers , she started feeling some type of way because i spoke up and started defending my elderly disabled patient they all have been ignoring service to and refusing to help for one whole hour. . After i spoke up , this younger woman came over and help took orders finally from my elderly patient i was with …….I would not recommend this classless Deli to anyone in my life . These employees are extremely rude men and women straight up disrespectful and have absolutely no class or human decency whatsoever for the disabled or elderly , and most definitely not for themselves. Very unprofessional place of...
Read moreAt the same location on Pico for 71 years, in addition to excellent food with generous portions, this restaurant pays homage to the film/entertainment industry and Los Angeles sports.
The walls are packed with signed and framed sports jerseys from Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Kings and include signed photos of sports legends such as Muhammed Ali.
Additionally, the walls are lined with numerous signed and framed movie posters such as Mel Brooks "Silent Movie" and "Young Frankenstein", Leonard Nimoy "Spock", Harrison Ford "Star Wars" posters, as well as signed and framed tributes to Academy Awards winners, the Rat Pack, and a mural of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz.
The menu first begins with a black and white photo of the proprietors Lilli and Herman Markowitz, with a note from the the Markowitz Family about their parents. Secondly, the 6 page menu includes traditional Jewish delicatessen food for breakfast (omelttes, breakfast wraps and baked goods) lunch (soups, pita pockets, sandwiches, paninis and chili) and dinner. You can order grilled, charbroiled, fried, dip, barbecue or open face sub sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, deli and fish platters, salads - they even offer diet plates, low carb choices, stir fry, south of the border and vegetarian options.
There is a wonderful deli full of fresh meats, salads and desserts, as well as snacks, bottled water, soda and souvenirs.
It is a no fuss family oriented restaurant (yes there is a children's menu). Perfect for getting together with your family or dining for 2. Patio dining is offered, but the day I visited it had been raining so it was closed.
The restaurant does offer valet parking, but there is parking on the side streets and on Pico. There are a few coin operated rides for the kids outside the front. The food is excellent and portions are generous.
I look forward to...
