My sons and I could not decide nor agree on what to eat for dinner. So I Google searched for fast food restaurants in my area resulting in a list of establishments and hours of operations. Considering the time was about 9:30p.m., closing time was fast approaching for some establishments. I chose Farmer Boys because I heard some good things about them and I walked past the location (over a mile away from where I live/ work) a few times. Before COVID 19, the place appeared to be busy with plenty of cars going through the drive thru. Mind you, my walks with my dogs often occured after the sun went down so the evening hours. When my son and I arrived this time for my very first visit, the parking lot was empty and the drive thru only had one car. I parked in the parking lot because I wanted to actually go inside to see the menu but my son was hesitant because the lobby area was empty. Due to COVID 19, he felt the lobby / dining area may be closed. While we sat in the car looking for signs of life inside, another vehicle parked close to us and the driver went inside. I noted one car in the drive thru as we entered. Two young ladies were taking orders at the counter. One worked the drive thru while the other one took our order. Two cooks were behind the counter in the kitchen cooking while a third person could be seen further back behind the cooking area sorting things out. The seating area was blocked off and foot prints and tape marked where you could stand while placing and waiting for your order. I ordered 4 chicken strips with fries and soda, cheddar burger with fries and soda, and chicken avocado sandwich on sourdough bread no fries but a vanilla milkshake. I enjoyed watching the young ladies make the milk shakes with real ice cream scooping from a cylinder shaped container reminding me of younger days. While we waited, the young ladies prepared their workstations restocking supplies. Anyway, the order was made fresh with fresh ingredients. My oldest son (picky eater) gave the chicken strips his vote of approval. He now considers Farmer Boys his new favorite fast food establishment. Finally, Subway has a challenger!! My youngest son ( a food lover) thought the burger was okay. I reminded him the cheese was real cheddar and he was not use to eating cheddar cheese on his burgers. He agreed and decided to try something else ( another burger) the next time. Naturally, I enjoyed my milk shake topped off with whip cream and I was please with the blend of avocado and chicken. The chicken breast was not processed and to my surprise the sandwich had bacon. Crisp bacon. The avocado made the sandwich not dry. The chicken was not overcooked nor dry. None of the ingredients were overbearing so I thought the sandwich had a nice blend of flavors and very tasty. I spent a little over $40 to feed three people. To be fair, a very large shopping area is across the street from Farmer Boys. I am not sure if this entire area has been reopened. A lot of semi trucks, Greyhound, and the city bus garage are also prevalent in that area. COVID 19 may be having a negative affect on businesses in that area at the moment hence the lack of traffic at Farmer Boys. Perhaps earlier in the day there is more activity. Anyway, I recommend the establishment as a great place for...
Read moreI love the food here but SADLY not the service. I have gone to this store multiple times in the past. The most recent two were the worst.
Today, I odered the grilled cheese burger along with a drink and redeemed my free onion rings as offered to me for submitting a survey to help them find out how they are doing. The review did not seem to change anything because the service got worse.
Placed my order at 14:32 as shown on the receipt. At 14:45 I realized that the counter crew with the name of Leslie only punched in a drink and my complimentary onion rings, no grilled cheese burger (I was occupied with a call which is why I failed to see it sooner.
I approached the counter and realized that I was the single customer there. No one came to me. I waited for something like 7-8 minutes before a counter girl greeted me. At that point I realized that my Onion Rings have still not been served for tha past 20 minutes. It was 14;52 on my watch. At this point I just asked for the supervisor or manager, whoever was there. The counter girl asked why and when I gave my lengthy response about their poor service she clearly did not know what to do. With a smile on my face, I just reminded her, “that is why I asked for a manager earlier. You don’t seem to know how to handle the situation.”
By the time the manager came to speak with me, the onion rings have been tardy for about half an hour. I was not in the mood to turn into a Ken but clearly I had legitimate reasons for wanting to talk to someone higher.
I did not raise my voice. I politely asked “how long does it take to make onion rings. I don’t think it should take 30 minutes, am I right?” “What happened to the grilled cheese burger?” “I am willing to pay for it but it seems that my order was not taken.”
All of these seems to push the cleanliness of the place aside. I did not go there to just enjoy the clean tables. I went there to eat. More than 30 minutes of having no food is no laughing matter for an...
