I used to be a regular at the Roosevelt cafe, so came to try out the new cafe. I ordered a grilled sandwich, which was good. But the atmosphere has changed. The new owners are trying for a more upscale experience, but to my mind have lost the family feel of the old cafe, and have a few kinks to work out. I sat in the unpaved outside patio to enjoy the air. The new outside chairs have small feet, which sink into the dirt, so I had a tipsy feeling until I moved the chair and table to find a sufficiently hard surface. When the waitress brought my lunch, I discovered that she hadn't brought any napkins or utensils. I went into the cafe to fetch some, and they had them pre-rolled in a drawer. She had just forgotten them, which seems like a strange thing for an experienced server to forget: take food and utensils. My sandwich and fries came with a small ramekin of ketchup, but not enough for the meal. I saw that some guests had ketchup bottles. I assume they had requested them. The old cafe had baskets of condiments on the tables, which seems more convenient, if not as elegant a presentation as that for which the Franklin is trying. Also, if you are a CocaCola fan, the Franklin serves only Pepsi. I'll give it another try, but I suspect that from now on it will only be a place I go if I am already going to Griffith Park for another reason, whereas I used to make special trips just to have breakfast or lunch at ...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe just stopped at the Franklin's Cafe & Market on our way back from the Observatory. The service was great until they forgot my friend's veggie wrap and then the problems started. First, they didn't have hummus to make the wrap. Then, the cashier offered to let her switch to a beyond burger. Two minutes later, he comes back out and says that the chef refuses to make it until we pay the $3 difference. We stressed that we were trying to make a flight and needed to go quickly. My friend gave $5 in cash and needed change. Because she paid for the $11 on card and they wanted to log it into the system, they couldn't just move the $3 to the order. A manager was not around to refund the amount. They wanted to charge her card for another $14 making her pay $25 and take down her email to refund her the $11 later. After going back and forth for 15mins, they finally did what they should have done the entire time and not charged for the $3 difference. The experience would have been great if it were not for the extremely rude chef and completely unprofessional customer...

It is located within the golf course at Griffith Park. There are tables right outside the cafe, as well as facing street and golf course.
I think this is little expensive for what is offered. My turkey sandwich was $12. It was smaller than anticipated, and really didn't have flavour even adding salt and bit of mustard. The iced coffee was good, the roast was not too strong.
I think for convenience or quick bite this is okay, as there aren't many restaurants in this part of Griffith Park. But if you are really hungry or want more than sandwich or salad, there are choices on Los Feliz Drive or in the general vicinity outside the park.
Parking is free in the lot next to the restaurant, but you can find street parking if lot is full. Just...
