Located right on the water on the west side of the PCH in Pacific Palisades. Gladstones is a nice brunch or lunch option but the biggest selling point is the view and not really the food. They also have another location down in OC. Gladstones is a more casual version of Moonshadows down the street. They have a very large parking lot attached that offers valet and self parking. However, you must check in with the attendant first and parking is $15 for self parking, which I believe is a bit expensive given that for beach parking in the exact same parking lot it’s $8. I wanted to lie and say I was going to the beach instead, but figured they would watch me walk into the restaurant. Kind of odd that there are two different pricing choices, especially given that most people will stay a shorter time at the restaurant versus the beach. Inside they have a lot of seating options, both indoor and out. Inside is designed kind of strangely with huge open areas in the middle of the booths that are pushed up against the walls. It could definitely use a touchup on the inside and some modernization. Pricing is a bit expensive but that’s to be expected for the location. This is not really elevated food location so that’s why I don’t suggest it as a dinner location, which is what we had for our visit. Our server was pretty nice, although very slow to check in on us and especially to come over and bring the menus at the start. The hostess was very polite though.
When we arrived for our 6:30PM Saturday dinner all of the outside tables were taken so we chose to sit inside. We sat at the booths on the inside right against the water, which was nice view. All of the booths are quite uncomfortable though and the cushions definitely need to be replaced. They have a very large menu filled with all sorts of seafood classics, but I decided to try their seasonal menu because one of my favorite items was on it, which was were Sand Dabs. A very classic LA and West Coast only fish dish so I could not avoid that. It was actually pretty good, although the sides could’ve been better. It’s a very easy fish to cook so I expected it to have some great buttery flavor. I also started with a Clam Chowder Bread Bowl and thought that was very good. It could have had more clams in it, but I enjoyed it as a starter.
Overall, it was a nice meal, but could’ve been better. It seems like Malibu does not have a lot of great food quality options but more so places that have good scenery. Even Moonshadows, Nobu, and Duke’s are surpassed food quality wise by other places more inland. Giorgio Baldi just west of the PCH for example. You come here for the view and that’s the...
Read moreI want to start this off by saying my rating here is due to the Service we received and not the food.. So I am a true fan of Gladstone's. I come here quite often due to the location, food, and vibe. The restaurant sits right on the beach with direct access. The parking lot is huge with plenty of parking. Came here today for my husband's birthday. Our 2 boys loved their burger and fries and I enjoyed mine as well. My husband devoured his fish and chips! However, the highlight of today's meal was dessert. The chocolate cake. 5 layers of heaven topped with chocolate chips and an amazingly decadent chocolate sauce. I'm telling you this cake is the truth! Do it, do it, do it! Ok, I'll stop trying to ruin your summer bathing suit goals now. After lunch, we walked out of the restaurant and onto the beach to relax and let the boys play. Anyway, this is a great place to dine. I highly suggest it. I recommend going around sunset as the view out into the ocean is gorgeous. No about that rating..... I put a lot of weight on Service at a restaurant. For me, I can receive a not so great plate of food at restaurant but be overjoyed by the wait staff. The service/lack thereof given by a waiter/waitress can completely change the experience of a Customer. So, with all of that being said and without exposing any names, I will just say that we were pretty much ignored during our visit today. We had to flag down our waiter for everything after waiting long periods of time for assistance. It was really a shame because this was my husband's birthday lunch and I was hoping for the service we normally receive at Gladstone's. Hopefully, this was just an off day for...
Read moreWow, had a great experience. We showed up at the restaurant for a birthday party only to find out that we were at the wrong Gladstones. I had no clue that there were 2 of them. The manager told us there was one in Long Beach as well. We looked it up only to find out that it was going to be an hour to get there. We called our party and they said they were going to be there for another hour or hour and a half. We had paid for parking at the restaurant and decided let's stay and eat. The view was gorgeous, looking at the waves of the ocean mesmerizing. I ordered a mojito and it seemed a bit sour, the manager Alex noticed me looking around and asked me what it was I needed. Told him I was looking for our waitress. He stepped in to help me with my drink. He brought me a shot of something you put to make it sweeter then offered me a different drink or a watermelon mojito. I took up on his offer and it was fantastic. I was there with my daughter and son. My daughter had also ordered an alcoholic beverage and because we had the experience of going to the wrong Gladstones and missing my friends birthday he comped our drinks and sent a huge chocolate cake our way. I say you made our evening worthwhile and put a smile on our faces. Thank you for a lovely evening. Alex, you made it all worth the while. Thank you for caring, listening and taking care of us and walking us out. Your team was also spontaneous and great. I asked my waitress to also flip the chicken sandwich into a chicken burger and there was no issue about it. We appreciate it all! Thank you to the original Gladstones in Pacific...
