Expensive! With that out of the way, K's Bistro provided a fantastic curated sushi/sashimi dining experience. We explored beyond the usual specialty rolls and basics and let our waiter, Peter, be our guide, and we are glad we did. Peter asked us what we like and don't like, and then currated a dining experience for us - starting with the ubiquitous Miso Soup. From there, it was a cucumber salad and a seaweed salad, both delicious. Then we jumped into sashimi and sushi with 24 large size pieces that came out paired in groups of three. The first three included Scallops, Tuna and Yellow Fin Tuna. The second group was Kanpachi, Albacore, and Salmon. Group three awas Bluefin Tuna, Albacore, and King Salmon. Finally, it was seared Salmon Belly, Nodoguro, and Unagi. Each serving was paired uniquely, some with typical though excellently flavored ingredients and others with very unique ingredients - pecorino cheese??? (who puts Italian cheese on sushi), papaya??? All absolutely delicious! Peter never steered us wrong, even when it came to dessert - the strawberry sorbet was amazing. If anyone asks me where to go for a raw fish meal in the LA Basin, I'm telling them if they have a few bucks to spend and aren't in a hurry, go...
Read moreBest. Sushi. Ever. Have not found better in any city I have traveled to, and I pretty much focus on nothing but sushi 2-3 nights a week in whatever city I happen to be in, for the last 30 years. (I travel for work every weekday.) The only problem is that Kanpai has completely ruined for me every other Sushi/Sashimi restaurant now, because it is just that much better. Words don't even describe the difference between your typical "good sushi restaurant" and Kanpai. Everyplace else I've been to simply isn't in the same game. Do talk to Peter, the assistant manager. He helped us through a huge daily menu that lists the best from the market each morning. We ordered completely off the daily special list. Virtually nothing I tasted was comparable in any respect to anything I've had before. For years I though tuna was OK, not great, but the sashimi tasting menu Peter selected for us, with bluefin from Spain, made me realize that tuna, selected and prepared correctly, is mind-blowing. Service was friendly and excellent. I don't think you'd want to try this at 7 pm on a Friday without reservations. It's not a big seating area, and...
Read moreI placed a pickup order for two Spicy Tuna Rolls and instead received hand rolls—despite clearly selecting “ROLL” on the menu. The restaurant’s own website shows photos of cut rolls, so it was obvious what I was expecting. When I called to resolve the issue, they refused to fix their mistake. Instead of apologizing or offering to send the correct items, they told me to walk back to the restaurant in the hot sun to return the food—even though the error was on their end. They didn’t offer to deliver the correct order or take any responsibility. They were apparently okay with losing a long-time customer over a $25 refund. I’ve been visiting this restaurant for over 5 years, and this was incredibly disappointing. To make matters worse, when I contacted their delivery platform (Dylish), the restaurant falsely claimed I received what I paid for—even though I have clear screenshots proving otherwise. The entire situation was handled unprofessionally, and no one seemed to care that I was sent the wrong order. Terrible customer service and zero accountability. I won’t be returning, and I recommend others...
