Nice little boutique hotel with great design but, for the moment, more cons than pro, so if you’d like an efficient though less pretty place to spend the night by the airport, you might have to go elsewhere for now.
PROS The hotel design incredibly aesthetic (as expected being the little sister of the Proper). The lobby is fun and the rooms, although bare, are clean and chic. Pool area is really fun and very well designed making you forget the airport is just 10 minutes away.
Aesop skincare in the shower (shampoo, conditioner and body wash) but strangely enough they didn’t install the locked dispensers by the sink to have both hand wash and lotion so there’s a tiny random bar soap and the Aesop body balm just in top of the sink.
Food at the Caravan Swim Club (poolside open air restaurant and bar) was great and the service was spot on and friendly.
CONS No one ever answers the reception when you call. I resorted to text messaging but even that took ages (over 10 minutes) to reply to any inquiry or request.
This is an airport hotel which means guests are passing through and will probably have suitcases (large and small). The hotel only has 4 luggage carts which always seem to be in use and not enough bellmen/valet to help with luggage. We ended up stacking our suitcases on our own in the lobby with the receptionist watching but not offering any help and struggling to roll the wonky cart into the lift. Luckily a kind gentleman who works at the hotel, I imagine housekeeping, helped us with the bags to unload them in the room.
Breakfast is a bit chaotic - they are obviously understaffed and have one cashier/order taker who then has to tell the busboy which person ordered what. Why not have those order number stands (like in other semi self-serve restaurants) so the orders are delivered smoothly. The hotel should also provide smaller coffee paper cups so the busy barista doesn’t have to explain to everyone who ordered a cappuccino why the cup is half-full (the correct proportion of espresso shot, milk and foam which I appreciate). The service staff were helpful and friendly though, they just need help.
Reception was the weakest link at the hotel for not answering the phone and for having just one person to deal with the guests questions. I also understand that most people just ask for their final bill to be emailed but if a client asks to check their detailed bill, it shouldn’t have to be read out loud to the client line by line as there seems to be no printer at the reception area.
The daily $15 guest amenity fee for “Wifi and pool area” is an unnecessary hidden charge that gets added on to the final bill. This isn’t a proper resort hotel so charging your guest an extra $15 plus all the other different CA taxes and fees raised the room rate from $225 for a basic standard king room to $283.87 per night - very steep for an airport hotel and priced out of all the other ones nearby which also have a free shuttle. We took an Uber both ways to the hotel and back and that’s an extra amount I’m willing to pay but not the random “Guest Amenity Fee” tagged...
Read moreI had two good night stay at the Hotel June and I have to admit that its a real contradiction of a hotel. There are so many great things about this hotel, but there are some really confusing and frustrating things about it as well. It looks like an older building or hotel that has been converted to the Hotel June. So there are lots of dated parts of the hotel that have been made to look quite stylish. The hotel lobby, sitting area and bar/ dining area are great. The bartender is always making sure you are taken care of and if you need anything. No one is trying to rush you out of there even if ppl are waiting for seats. The staff at the front are also very nice and friendly, however they don't seem to know a lot of what the hotel offers and most questions were answered with "i'll get back to you on that". The rooms are simply, nicely updated and clean. The beds and pillows are extremely comfortable which allows for great nights' rest... but, the phone wasn't working and we were told that someone was going to come and fix it but no one ever came... so since there is no self parking.. every time we needed our vehicle it was a long wait as we could not do it from the room as we were told. The other issue is that there are minimal toiletries. The was a small bottle of shampoo and conditioner but thats it.... no soap, no hand soap, even when i asked for it i was told there is no hand soap.. don't understand that one... Also there is no turn down service or fresh towels and there are only couple towels available so we ended up with wet towels for the second day. The tv is nice and big but... there is no cable so you can watch youtube or "bring your own entertainment" offering.. but the wifi is not very strong so not much entertainment in the room. You can't call the front desk because the phone is not working. Also, the fridge was not working and we were told someone would come to look at it, but no one did. On the other side... the adjacent restaurant is incredible... amazing food and drinks.. pricey.. but very very good. Parking is pricey as well and only valet so because the phones don't work, you have to wait for your vehicle every time. The one time we waited for over 30 mins because every one seemed to be heading out at once. Overall this place has some 5 star qualities, but also some very negative parts that made the stay not ideal. I think that knowing what the limitations are, i would not mind staying here again, but would plan...
Read moreFrom the time we stayed here last year to the time we stayed again the Hotel June is perfection for a myriad of reasons. It’s close to LAX so if you want to stay here before your flight the next day or even uber here to stay after landing to meet up with people. The Hotel June has the Caravan Bar which has a solid Happy Hour from 4 to 6pm. This place its a smart stop for a great night sleep, a good work out and a great pool to enjoy. Mario at Caravan is a great energy and was so very good with these fantastic cocktails such as the Poolside Spritz which is equal parts of Champagne, St. Germaine, Vodka then fresh strawberry and lemon. I suggest two. The Caravan bar has a great wine list with most notably the Rioja from Spain being the most tannin forward and the texture perfection for a solid nighttime poolside hang. The pool actually feels like one is on a cruise ship or island between the breezes, the day beds and balcony it’s truly a great use of space and perfect design to really start or continue any vacation. A Special staff works at the front desk and deals with high volume and energetic customers from dawn to duck. We had the blessing of the very kind Kira helping us get the best room on the 11th floor with the best view. Kira knows what’s she is doing and the entire front desk staff reflects this. Katiana was amazing at dealing with an uppity ‘Karen’ at the desk whose demands were rapid fire and strangely demanded an ice bucket sent tot her room. Katiana handled it like a pro and went above and beyond to neutralize this Karmically insensitive diva-like guest. We had the pleasure of being given white glove service by the amazing Kevin who was clear and calm with his introduction to the property and well versed that he instantly made us feel like family. Vanessa who went to The Proper in DTLA used to work here deserves a shout out for training Kevin so well. Thank you Kevin for helping us and the entire staff for setting such a happy vibe. We come back and book with you for that. As for the rooms, the bedding is wonderful and so are the selections of soaps by Aesop and are as sustainable as the wooden cutlery in the lobby restaurant names Scenic Route where I would recommend the Egg White Squash Blossom Quesadilla -...
