I come to this coffee shop almost everyday because it's so close to where I live. The coffee is excellent when it's prepared properly. I'm a barista, and one of the first things I learned is that you have to use espresso shots within ten seconds after pulling them or else they go bad. Today, the barista on duty (short white woman wearing a yellow shirt and ponytail) pulled my shots and put them to the side while she prepared another customer's drink. Anyone who has had a drink with shots that have been sitting knows that the taste is overly bitter. I requested that she re-pull them, and though she complied, she also said very loudly, "there's really no difference." First of all, she was wrong, and I expect baristas at an upscale coffee shop such as La Colombe to have this kind of basic espresso knowledge. Second of all, and more importantly, she was extremely rude. I will continue to come to this coffee shop just because the coffee is good, but please ensure your baristas have the proper training and knowledge so that customers receive the quality product and customer service that they...
Read moreThree stars for the decent coffee by the river. It's atmosphere and location are the only reasons I come here regularly(primarily because I live nearby). Other than that, I dread ordering from the staff; sometimes they have conversations while taking my order or make me wait for them to finish talking... and they're unapologetic about it. I never feel welcome. In addition to the bad service, my favorite treats have gone off the menu. The choc chip banana bread? Bye bye! The white choc matcha cookies? See ya never.
pros: nice and convenient location by the river-good during and after a walk, free tap+sparkling water, cute dogs passing by, and tasty(but expensive) baked goods
cons: no wifi(?!?), hard to find parking, occasional condescending/hipster staff, no cash taken, a bit pricey, and there's often a limited variety of baked goods-never have anything you actually want from the menu!
tip: ask for a moderate amount of ice-they put too much it waters...
Read moreSorry but this place is really mid. What wins you over is the location, the river the courtyard annnd that’s about it. I always thought they were a decent coffee roaster and I think they are but this location in particular doesn’t seem to know how to pour drafts. Every time I’ve ordered a draft from here I’d say a quarter of the drink is all foam. Imagine going to get a beer at a bar and the only actual beer you get is like two shots in a pint glass. Would you want that? Would you pay $8 for two shots of beer? Surprisingly I’ve had their canned drafts and they were much better. Again not a review of the brand itself just this location. It’s typically quiet, well spaced out and chill. And I liked this spot because a draft latte is usually worthwhile among the other so so cafes in the area. Hopefully they can rectify this because I’d like to keep...
