Ordered via Caviar the first time, was stoked on the little sandwich boxes and labels! Even more stoked when I had half of a Larry Mantle (italian basically, but the best italian sub I've ever had, blows away every italian sandwich I've EVER had in 38 years of searching for the best. I want to make sweet sweet love to this amazing gem of a sandwich shop if it were possible. I told the entire crew and owner today what an amazing spot it is, and how damn good every sandwich has been. Fantastic original recipes with quality ingredients made by a staff that cares. So far I've tried the already mentioned Larry Mantle, and the "Kai Ryssdal" was hands down the best tuna sandwich I've ever had. Not made with mayo, but some magical citrus lovin' I could not explain. This was in the fridge overnight mind you! Today I drove all the way from a doctors appointment on the westside just to make it right before they closed. I got the Larry mantle again, and this time by recommendation I tried the "Terry Gross" on focaccia bread. What a creative combo and shocking mix of flavors. Very hard to describe until you try it. The roasted turkey and tillamook pepperjack are instantly recognizable, some spicy chili aioli set it off just perfectly. And the focaccia (which I normally hate) was fluffy and "airy" not all heavy and doughy like it normally is. I could continue to go on, but I dont want this place getting any more popular than it is. I want it all to myself! So much so I called about the commercial property down the street. If we become neighbors I'm going to become a 400lb gorilla but I will not care. Because I have the best sandwiches in the world available to me. I'll try and get some better photos next time before I inhale my next sandwich. Photos below are of the "Terry Gross." Mind you, thats only HALF the sandwich. yum Much love to you guys. See you...

Was excited to try this spot that my brother had heard good things about. My bro works in the tv and film industry, recently on Transparent, Bright, and now on Westworld. While working in Frogtown he talked to the owners of Wax Paper and I heard a little of their stories.

Now to the spot and the food! Great design, branding, vibe. Excellent drinks, unique delicious salads (always a big plus to have delicious fresh veggies and pickles), and the sandwich was my favorite new sandwich in a LONG time. Like my favorite new sandwich in a few years. And I eat a decent amount of new spots.

The sandwich used a high quality bread. Not sure what it was... maybe a form of baguette? Hard crust. It was like some high end European stuff that you don't see people using much around here.

One of my business partners owned the Nom Nom Banh Mi trucks. I learned that 🥖 baguettes don't last past a day, so sometimes she had to throw some away! Sucks. That's why the French made croutons out of old bread.

The roasted pork in the sandwich tasted like a pate to me. One of my favorite things w good bread!

This is a run don't walk place. Parking sucks. But people like me need to walk more anyway. I'm sure this place is gonna get more crowded as the word gets out more and the neighborhood changes.

Btw, my last fave sandwich was the Milanesa cemitas at the El Monchi's truck on Atlantic.

Ah, and it was nice to see one of the owners/cooks wearing a Biggie pin I had designed a couple years ago. I did a lot of the Pin God designs a...

Note: This rating is based on only one sandwich from Wax Paper.

Ordered the Audie Cornish, which is basically a Black Forest ham and cheese sandwich. It looked and tasted like something a teenager put together at home. The bread (baguette) was hard to chew, the ham seemed like the kind you can get at the deli counter at Ralphs, Vons, or any other grocery store, and the cheese (IMO the worst part) was shredded yellow cheddar - looked like the kind you find in the refrigerator aisle of the market: pre-shredded and in a bag. The "honey butter," "sea salt," and "cornichon vinaigrette," didn't do anything to make the sandwich better, even though these ingredients sound fancy and delectable.

Needless to say, I'm pretty disappointed because Silver Lake/Atwater/Los Feliz really is in need of a great casual sandwich shop and I really thought this was going to be it. (If anyone knows of other places I should try, please DM me! I'd appreciate the recommendations.)

I will say that based on other yelpers' photos, the veggie sandwich (Ira Glass) looks like it would be worth a try. Despite my low rating here, I'd probably give this place another try and order a...

In Frogtown, just north of Echo Park, artsy shipping containers with matching patio furniture suspiciously take over a quiet corner of the neighborhood. Of course, the sighting is no mystery to the locals, as Wax Paper is undoubtedly the most loved sandwich place in all of L.A! With their experience in the restaurant industry, owners Peter and Lauren Lemos just wanted to provide a place for locals to hang out...with a sandwich shop. The sandwiches and the drinks at Wax Paper are far from ordinary as the incredibly genuine and passionate people at the shop with their mission to 'serve everyone.' These are musts. Ira Glass: savory garlic aioli spread on a Bub and Grandma's airy bread with all the textures in check with creamy avocados and crunchy veggies. Larry Mantle: bold flavors of provolone, bologna, and capicola balanced with zesty, vinegared veggies in a soft sub. The pickles made in-house were a perfect complement to the sandwiches.
