Itâs always an exciting and disorienting experience as a vegetarian to be at a place where you can order everything on the menu, no questions asked. Throw in a gluten free member of the party who also can eat absolutely everything off the menu and we have the makings of some real excitement. Leoâs Superfood Bakery & Deli offers up exactly thatâŚitâs an all vegan, all gluten free establishment where you can basically eat anything you want!
A party of four of us, including two people who were dairy free and gluten free, a kid who is picky, and a lacto-ovo vegetarian (thatâs me) were all present. I had the Southwestern Veggie Skillet. (seasoned tofu âeggsâ and veggies over a bed of potatoes). I thought it was pretty tasty and filling though a bit salty for my tastes.
My wife ha the Pesto Tofu Scramble over sweet potato hash. She thought it all went well together, but was also a little over salted. She thought this would be good as a wrap (which is one of the ways it is offered.)
The third person in our party had the Breakfast Muffin with no bread (even though gluten free was available.) She had it over potatoes instead of as a sandwich and she really liked the tofu âfried eggâ. The vegan cheese had the consistency of cooked egg white...tasty fried eggy.
Our kid had a simpler version of the Black Bean Burrito listed on the menuâŚno cheese with a little Pico de Gallo. The tortilla was not quite large enough to fully wrap the contents so it was served as kind of a really large soft taco. The tortilla was gluten free and our kid couldnât tell.
As long as we were there and given that there were desserts to tryâŚwe tried themâŚa sampling of their donuts and brownies. Their donuts were akin to cake donuts but much denser and given to us cold out of the refrigerated cabinet. We thought they might have been better room temperature. Theyâre sweetened with coconut sugar (Which is great for folks who are avoiding conventional sugars.) Some at the table loved it all but the two of us eaters of non gluten-free stuff thought they were a little lacking.
We were the only people in the restaurant when we arrivedâŚthe seating area is small and only one person was workingâŚit took a long time for our food to come and we can only imagine what it would have been like if more people had shown up to order food for there or to go.
We generally joined the food and my wife has been pining to go back to try the gluten-free pancakes so it seems that a return...
Read moreParking was impossible ... this place was small ... and you could hear how unhappy the employees were here... I ordered a $63.- 8inch round 3 tier chocolate vegetarian birthday cake on Thursday to pick up on Saturday ... was not ready ... plus they didnât have a box the correct size for this cake the box provided was too small and could not close .. by the time we got it home the writing (which we were charged extra for) and the side of the cake were smashed ... although the cake itself looked beautiful all these other things took away from what should have been a 5 star from this place ... you could tell that they make great things here but having unhappy employees and grumpy delivery service drivers waiting on orders and not having the right box size for such a wonderful cake that gets destroyed on the way home ... fix these things and Leoâs SuperFood Bakery could be top of valley ....!!!!! Come on guys get it together .... Run the place better ... you need a good manager to fix these things ... I am not trying to say itâs a bad place you just need to run it better ... I wonât be back until you do ... that was just too much for me ... peace âŽď¸ Tony... Update ... the actual vegan that we ordered the cake for upon eating a piece of the cake and the non vegans as well all agreed that was the worst cake we have ever had ... I didnât know what to say Iâm not a vegan ... it was the vegan that said it was completely dry and tasted bad... for the $63. We paid for this cake we now know not to set foot in Leoâs superfood ... itâs too bad heâs just down the street from me ... p.s. I didnât post this right away because I wanted to just forget about it but the Vegan made...
Read moreAfter eyeing this place for awhile, I decided pay them a visit. I told them it was my first time there, and they were extremely helpful.
I had to get the donuts as the other reviews wouldn't stop praising them. I ended up getting the maple and the cinnamon donuts. They were like cake donuts. Definetly worth eating, (a little more than just trying). They had the right amount of sweetness, not overly sweet.
I just got thier standard breakfast burrito without any of the additional add-ins.. it may seem wierd but the extra tortilla makes a lot more since when you get the burrito as is. They stuff the burrito with multiple ingredients which one tortilla doesn't do justice. But when you are watching your carbs, it's quiet nice. The flavor was amazing as it reminded me of having a cheesy experience at a vegan restaurant. There were parts of the burrito where I felt it to be slightly salty for my pallette (subjective to me).
But there is one phenomenonal discovery which Leo's breakfast burrito made me realize, when you have vegan ingredients which may not taste perfect by itself, but when it's paired with other items, its works. I know many new vegans, including myself, would try one component of the dish and make an judgment call, but we may have been wrong. We just have to appreciate the meals put together.
I will be going back for the crunch wrap item next. And a couple of more items. It is a place worth trying and checking out for both vegans...
