I’ve done a couple of other discovery flights in smaller planes (C172 and PA-28) and wanted to try a Cirrus. Booking a golden hour flight with Jade at LA Flight Academy turned out to be an awesome, seamless experience that exceeded my expectations.

The entire process was outstanding. Booking was hassle-free, and they were incredibly flexible—even accommodating my last-minute request for a sunset/evening flight. When I arrived a bit late, Jade greeted me with genuine enthusiasm and immediately put me at ease. His passion for flying is contagious, and his chill, professional demeanor made the whole experience both comfortable and confidence-inspiring. The plane, a Cirrus SR-20, was modern, powerful, and clearly well-maintained—definitely a premium experience that’s worth trying if you’re considering it.

What really sets Jade apart is how he went above and beyond for a discovery flight. When I asked him to make it genuinely instructional, he absolutely delivered. He recognized my previous experience and tailored his approach perfectly, helping me practice taxiing with specific tips (like keeping my right knee on the taxi line), and guiding me through various maneuvers including turns around a point, slow flight, and stall recovery. His specific feedback and attention to detail were exactly what I was hoping for.

My first evening flight was magical—it’s an entirely different kind of flying. The highlight was when Jade had me set a heading directly toward the rising moon on the horizon! While I unfortunately don’t live in LA, I can’t recommend this experience enough. For excellent value and a flight that’s both incredibly scenic and genuinely educational, book with LA Flight Academy and absolutely request Jade as your instructor. I’ve attended four different flight schools and have instructed at three, in my perspective I find the schools where the owners are actively involved and physically present tend to provide the most support and comfortable experience for the students. I had the pleasure to work directly with the owner, Anthony, who facilitated a smooth transition to his school, worked with me through my FTSP and successfully scheduled checkrides for me (twice!).

I worked with Alex Feldman for my commercial multi-engine add on, he makes the lessons memorable and entertaining with his endless famous jokes! I appreciate how he conducts lessons in an efficient manner in a way that would be similar with my own teaching style. Upon speaking to his other students at various stages of training combined with my own perceptions, I find that he is a very trustworthy instructor who does not prioritise his own hours or financial gain at the expense of the student.

Jack Keshishian is also another instructor here who devotes his time to maintaining the school and performing administrative duties such as checking flights in/out, preparing invoices etc. Together with Anthony, they make the flight training experience streamlined and straightforward.

I only have positive things to say about my experience here, the only regret I have is not doing my previous licences with them!! The fleet is diverse, well maintained and can take you from day 1 of private pilot all the way to advanced ratings such as AMEL/CFI.
