Magpies Softserve — Restaurant in Los Angeles

Just brought my family here tonight and the owner was a huge jerk. There was somewhat of a line and he was clearly very flustered and was visibly annoyed when my mom asked to try two ice cream flavors. I asked to try one. And he hurried us to the other end of the counter and then I asked to try a second one before I made my decision. He rudely told me that I could only try 2 samples. Before I could even tell him that I only tried one (he was confusing me with my mom who sampled two flavors) he told me I needed to hurry up. He ended up just handing me a cup of the flavor I asked for a sample of and I told him I didn't order that. He kept brushing me off as if I was holding up his business. I hadn't even been inside the store 5 minutes. I tried to explain to him that I didn't even ask for 2 flavors and I didn't appreciate the way he was treating me as I did nothing wrong and was just a new customer wanting to taste something before I bought it. He brushed me off and told me we could talk about this later. What? Anyway, go to Salt & Straw if you want good service and ice cream. Their lines are always super long but they never make you feel rushed and I've watched them give people sample after sample. There's no excuse for this behavior. Totally...

This place. THIS PLACE. I don't even know how to explain how much I love their vegan ice cream. I'm lactose intolerant and most places have just typical flavors of ice cream for vegan options or have one or two to pick from. Magpie's has one or two new vegan flavors EVERY WEEK. And they rotate so typically you have 4-6 to choose from.

Last week I got Date Cake and Chocolate Cake. Before that it was Ube And Coconut Macaroon. I've had Red Velvet and Mexican Hot Chocolate. Corn Almond. Green Tea.

Today I picked up three pints: Pandan, Thai Iced Tea, and Lemon Cake. I'm honestly so happy. I never thought I would be eating Pandan or Thai Iced Tea ice cream. But here I am. Filled with ice cream and joy.

Best vegan soft serve I’ve ever had. Dare I say best I’ve ever had period ?!? These flavors are insane! So unique and original and just absolutely delicious. I’m fully vegan and came here to beat the heat. I had the corn almond and brownie batter. What even is corn almond?! I don’t know but it was delectable. Sweet, rich and so creamy. The man working was really kind and let us try samples. First one I tried was the one I went with (corn almond + brownie batter swirl). AMAZING! I got it in a delicious cone and it was so perfect.
