MIXT Salads — Restaurant in Los Angeles

It's unfair how delicious this place is. Their dressings are nuanced and unique, their ingredients fresh and lively, and their menu caters to the whole gambit of food lifestyles from vegan to your yuppie, steak-needing husband. Here's how delicious: I ordered a DYO bowl online through their somewhat limited online ordering platform for curbside pickup, got there but realized after 12 minutes of waiting that my food was inside instead, there learned that they had run out of kale and used mixed greens instead: "I tried to call you - is that okay?" (it was, how sweet to call), had to go in again because they also forgot the bread, drove home only to find that they had also not added the cauliflower I paid extra for, and I STILL SAT DOWN IMMEDIATELY TO WRITE THIS 5-STAR REVIEW because I might have found my new favorite restaurant. And to be honest, the mixed greens made it better. (Also of course they were out of kale. This is silver lake, for chrissake.)

I got a DYO bowl with purple barley and non-kale/mixt greens, golden beets, mango, non-cauliflower, marinated tofu (soft like civilized folk, not baked into leather!), jicama, avocado, and falafel crumbles (brought things together amazingly! A must!), along with tamarind vinagrette and lemon tahini dressings. It was all-told $17.47. Both dressings are phenomenal - creamy but not too heavy when on the side and tangy without, in the case of the tamarind, sugary excess (so def pair with mango for bliss). MIXT (est 2019) of Silver Lake is a casual healthy farm fresh restaurant located on Sunset blvd. They offer salads, sandwiches, and grain bowls. They have ample free parking on site and curbside delivery from the MIXT Salad Valet™. I have probably driven past by this spot for years but never got the chance until now. I like their breadth of vegan food items on their menu as well as customize-make your own.

Its interior was chic, naturally well lit, neat and clean. Furthermore, its layout is spacious with high ceiling and few wall art decor over their large white walls. I was ebulliently greeted by a female staff with gentle eyes. After perusing the MIXT menu, I ordered a fresh lemonade and BBQ bowl which is composed of cilantro, brown rice, black beans, apple fennel slaw, cheddar, roasted potatoes, and crispy onions. Food was tasty, fresh and delightful. Drink was refreshing.

I love coming here for the salads. Best salad bar in town no doubt. But a recent hiring of new, and what seems to be untrained staff is bringing the quality and experience down. While there seemed to be more employees present, there was significantly less efficiency. To add to the inefficiency, there’s a lack of consistency in the salad making. It’s clear these new hires are lacking a sense of uniformity in executing the job. When I asked for an ingredient to be replaced in my salad, per my request, the staff member simply threw said ingredient on the side of my salad after it was mixed. It’s evident they don’t really care about the product they’re serving. They just need a little more retraining.
