Dayglow was the most exciting coffee shop in LA, until it isn't anymore.
Dayglow is known for its creative drinks. My favorite Warhol is a creamy cinnamon latte with a beautiful orange peel garnish. The limited-time, film-inspired signature series go even above and beyond. I visited Dayglow for the first time during its Wes Anderson series, when The French Dispatch was in theater. I had The Concrete Masterpiece, a warm and upbeat latte that was served in a Le Sans Blague cup as appeared in the film. Dayglow's newest series is inspired by P. T. Anderson and features There Will be Blood, a charcoal smoothie with a long straw that reenacts an imaginary scene of the iconic film. The reference is incredibly accurate and amusing.
While I truly appreciate Dayglow's creativity, I am fed up by its recent price hike. A capp is now $6 and you can't get anything from their new signature series for less than $10. With these prices, it is natural to get frustrated when I bad experiences, from mediocre coffee to condescending service. Now I only go inside if I have checked that it's my favorite baristas behind the bar. That's just not fun anymore.
Well, it was fun while it lasted.

I had a wonderful and memorable experience at Dayglow. What immediately impressed me was of course the fantastic collection of coffee beans on their rotation from all over the world. Better yet, Jess who made me a delicious latte has every quality you wish for from a barista: friendly and kind yet professional and candid. I wholeheartedly enjoyed our conversation and appreciate the great coffee and coffee tips I received.
When I visited the store, it had a collab with "The French Dispatch" movie with a special drink menu. I tried out "The Concrete Masterpiece". Served in a movie set Le Sans Blague cup, the drink has comforting creamy texture mixed with stimulating cinnamon powder, it was a true...
Read moreCoffee is the gasoline of life. Dayglow is a small coffee shop on Sunset blvd and Descanso dr in Silver Lake neighborhood of LA. Interior design and atmosphere were modern, organized and inviting, respectively. They have a front outdoor seating. I arrived early Humpday morning to grab a coffee. A young tall male staff gave a perfunctory non-ardent greeting as I entered the shop. I perused their coffee/beverage and baked pastry list which was very limited by coffee shop standard. I end up ordering a hot Sweetened Coffee (International) with milk. It’s taste and flavor was a bit subpar to other coffees that I have had in my entire adult life. Furthermore, they only offer a regular size cup (8 oz) which was significantly SMALLER compared to other coffee shops. And overpriced at a whopping $6. But it’s okay given its taste. If there was a consolation, their staff was assiduous, amiable, competent and followed health protocol. Service was moderately fast. Street metered parking only. After careful deliberation, I was disappointed with their mediocre hot sweetened (international) coffee. Therefore, it is my deepest regret to NOT recommend this...
Read moreI love this place because they have what amounts to a cocktail menu of coffees. Where else can you get a Totoro or an Andy Warhol. In case you are wondering a Totoro is a mix of charcoal, oat milk, espresso and coconut cream. The Warhol- well have is no longer just famous for discovering Velvet Underground, the soup cans or the Marilyn Monroe treatment. Now he has his own legendary coffee drink. The only reason this place did not get 5 stars across the board is what happened after I got my drink. I went outside, set the drinks down for me and my guest, and sat down. The metal chair I sat on had a weak leg, and I felt myself falling sideways in slow motion, as the wobbly leg grasped( unsuccessfully) for purchase. Fortunately I hit the ground softly, to the chuckles of nearby patrons. There was a kind Japanese woman who scooped me off the ground while my wife used the opportunity to get a photo. I’ll definitely be back but may opt for a to go order in the future. PS - I did set the chair aside and went and told the Barista about it- he could have cared less as the chair was still in harms way when we left 20 minutes later. ...
