The food here was pretty good. I'm not gonna B.S. y'all and say it was some transcendent experience or anything, but the steak was tasty enough, the appetizers were good, and the dessert was decent.
We'll start with the appetizers. The cheese bread? Get it! That stuff was probably the best part of the whole meal. It was really, really good. The rest of the dinner guests had the fried pickles and they destroyed two orders of them, so I'm guessing they were quite good as well, though I didn't taste them because there's something about the texture and taste of a hot, mushy pickle that just screams "no thank you" for me.
Next was the steak. I ordered a New York strip. It was seasoned well and cooked exactly as ordered (medium rare because I'm not a Philistine). Though it's quite obvious that they bulk out the ounces with exterior fat so you pay more for less meat. I'm not talking about the marbling or even the thin bits of fat on the outside that give a bit more flavor and moisture, but the huge gristle chunks that you cut off because you're not an animal. The baked potato was massive. If you order this, share it, or be three people. But please, whatever you do, don't opt in for the garlic sour cream. That stuff is straight up nasty. Monty's - stop it with that garbage! It's not fancy, it's not good. Just serve regular sour cream only. Please.
For the dessert, I split a cheesecake slice. It was alright. Wasn't amazing, wasn't terrible. It was just... there. They obviously didn't make it in house. And if they did, I hope they don't admit it because it's not something to brag about. One of the table's occupants got a hot fudge sundae, and that thing was worth bragging about making in house. I should have gotten that. I had one bite but wanted so many more.
All in all, it was an above average meal when comparing it to other restaurants. It was middle of the road, or unfortunately a little lower, when comparing it to other "premium" steakhouses. I get that it may be a staple of the neighborhood or a legacy or whatever, but it just didn't blow my hair back the way that the bill made it seem like it should. If you're in the area, you find yourself hungry for a steak and 17 pounds of baked potato, and you have so much money in your wallet it's hurting your back and you just want to get rid of the cash to alleviate the pain, go to Monty's. Otherwise, find a better steakhouse if you're looking for some beef from heaven to put you in a blissful food coma.
3.5 stars is my rating, but since I can only do 3 or 4, I've gotta put a 3 instead of a 4 because of the inflated cost and that terrible war crime of a condiment that they call garlic sour cream. That stuff is...
Read moreI had dinner reservations for Thursday January 12th to dine in the restaurant to celebrate My 51st Birthday! This is a one star upgrade from the last visit of 10 months ago! I had to move from the dining room because here we go again with the same situation of the lights flickering crazy! I told my server Brittney that I would not be able to enjoy my birthday dinner with the lights constantly flickering! I should have walked out and never came back! Brittney moved me to the high chairs of the bar area and I saw the whole area of the restaurant having the same issues with the lighting situation! At one point the whole restaurant was dark for a few minutes! I am not a fan of sitting in the bar area! I enjoyed the bread with the relish. I had the potato latkes with sour cream and applesauce for my starter. It was good even though I have not had it in many years! I also had the peppered salmon prepared without the pepper that came with mashed potatoes and vegetables. It would have been nice to have tartar sauce for the fish so I used the bread relish instead to put on my fish and it was good. I told my server Brittney that I was celebrating My 51st Birthday and I decided to get the New Orleans Bread Pudding for dessert with a surprise $12.00 birthday dessert on my bill! At least Brittney gave me a candle and wished me a Happy Birthday! She also mentioned to me when she lighted the candle on my bread pudding that she almost burned her hand with the lighter! The bread pudding was good for my dessert as I had it before. I know that I was not the only one complaining about the lights flickering situation! Do yourself a giant favor for your loyal guests and get a Electrician to fix...
Read moreSo I really hate to do this but here we go....
We will start with the food. We ordered over 400$ in food my wifes filet was under cooked my sons filet was over cooked and both lacked flavor not a good starting point but let me back up calamari was delicious but a bit rubbery other side were excellent no complaints there but it was mash and onion rings. Fried pickles were some of the best I ever had I highly suggest.
Service Waiter was pleasant and enjoyed our conversation but when I pay over 400$ for a meal I don't expect to brush bread clubs off my own table I want someone to do it for me. Bus boys or whatever they call the guys putting away your leftovers was rude and made me feel like I was in the wrong for wanting to take some of my expensive food home to enjoy late grade d-.
Restaurant ambiance A trip back to my childhood I'm in my late 40s, but I loved it elegant and tasteful I would def go back for drinks with my wife and or friends
Drinks Absolutely delicious and delightful my reason for saying I would go back for drinks but again a bit on the expensive side
Overall I probably would not go back for dinner my experience lacked other high-end restaurants that I paid less to eat at so I would not recommend unfortunately a friend did warn me but he said he hasn't visited in several years I was hoping to give him a better review to go back as we love to support local restaurants especially ones like this that have a great back story... if you don't know Google it and maybe try it for yourself maybe you will have a...
