Visiting Shirin Restaurant was an exceptional experience for me. A friend of mine, eager to share a taste of his culture, brought me along, making me feel like a culinary explorer akin to Andrew Zimmern or Anthony Bourdain.
Our meal began with fresh, homemade bread (pitas) served with butter and white onions—a simple yet delightful start. I then enjoyed a bowl of ASH E'RESHTEH, a vegetable soup with garbanzo and pinto beans, topped with sautéed mint, cream, and onions. The soup was incredibly flavorful and comforting.
For lunch, I opted for the Skewered Charbroiled Marinated Filet Mignon, which came with a broiled tomato, vegetables, and basmati rice topped with saffron rice. The filet mignon was tender and perfectly seasoned.
My friend chose the Skewered Marinated Boneless Lamb, also served with a broiled tomato, vegetables, and basmati rice with saffron. I sampled his lamb, which was wonderfully moist and delicious.
Shawn explained the traditional way to enjoy the meal: create a pocket in the rice, add butter, and then mash the broiled tomato into the rice. The tomato’s hot juices melt the butter, blending the flavors beautifully. A sprinkle of sumac, a tangy purple spice, completes the dish. Each bite, a combination of rice, veggies, and meat, was a delightful journey of flavors.
A special mention goes to Sara, our cashier. She was incredibly nice, communicative, and added a pleasant touch to our dining experience. Tall and beautiful, Sara made us feel welcome and attended to our needs with grace.

Let’s start with the appetizers. The Mast o Moussir was a refreshing burst of yogurt and shallot, the perfect prelude to the meal. The Hummus was classic, smooth, and garlicky. The Mast o Khiar offered a delightful blend of yogurt and herbs, providing a cooling contrast to the heartier dishes. And the Kashk Bademjan was an eggplant lover's dream, with a smoky depth that was simply irresistible.
Moving on to the main courses, the Tahdig was a crispy masterpiece. The combination of the perfectly cooked rice with the flavorful split pea stew and khorme sabze was a symphony of tastes and textures. The Soltanti, featuring juicy bargh and tender koobideh, was a carnivore’s delight. The lamb chops and lamb shank were cooked to perfection, showcasing the restaurant's expertise in grilling. Even the chicken was surprisingly flavorful.
The rice options were equally impressive. The Lubia polo with green beans offered a delightful twist, while the Albaloo polo with sour cherries provided a tangy kick. The Javaher polo with raisins was a classic choice, executed flawlessly.

The order was chicken kabob with baghali polo (dill rice with lima beans), and the meal exceeded expectations. The chicken was incredibly juicy and flavorful, with a beautiful golden char that hinted at saffron and light seasoning—not overly spiced, but rich and aromatic. The baghali polo was perfectly cooked: fluffy, aromatic, and full of fresh dill and tender fava beans, a classic Persian comfort dish done right.
The plate came with grilled tomatoes, lemon wedges, and sliced onions, alongside a side of soft fresh-baked Persian bread (taftoon), and a vibrant side salad with fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, and cabbage. The yogurt-based dipping sauce added a cool, tangy contrast to the grilled meats. Everything tasted fresh and homemade. Also Ash Reshte as an appetizer was really delicious and well cooked.
The service was smooth and respectful, with staff checking in just enough while allowing space to enjoy the meal. Portion sizes were generous, and pricing was reasonable for the quality and quantity of food provided.
