
My husband and I visited last week on a Saturday to enjoy some food and live music, unfortunately we didn't get to experience any food and little music.
I set a reservation online for 8:00, but thought it was at 8:30. I called the restaurant around 7:50pm and let them know my mistake. The hostess said we could still be seated since we were arriving around 8:20.
We get there and the hostess seats us out on the patio. We sit for about 30 minutes, watching other waiters serve everyone around us. There was literally a table right next to us that was seated after we were that got their drinks and apps, and we weren't even offered water.
We had to ask a waiter (a hispanic man in a white and green checkered shirt, who kept looking and walking around us, obviously looking and seeing us there not being waited on) - for water. He brought the water and that was it.
We waited another 15 minutes (at this point it's been 45 minutes) and not a single waiter that walked around us came to our table to wait on us. My husband finally asked a gentleman serving a nearby table if we could have a waiter, he left and asked another waiter..that waiter just shook his head no and the waiter we asked never came back to say anything to us.
Obviously, by this time, it was time to go. We were kind enough to wait that long - just to see if someone would serve us! I let the hostess know, she was lovely and quite apologetic -- even gave us a free appetizer as we were leaving. (the chicken empanadas, which were great actually!). The sad part is, NONE of the wait staff thought to let the hostess know that our table was not covered in their area. Instead, they all just walked around us -- seeing us there but not asking us to move or even alerting someone that we should be moved to another area so we could actually be served. It just seemed so disrespectful that they would all see us there and not serve us. Terrible wait staff.
Luckily we left without having to patronize this business. It's sad, I've been to this location for happy hour before the pandemic, and I don't remember the service being this terrible.
We never got to order any food or drinks, but the menu is pretty limited and not many options for plant based folks or vegetarians or non dairy eaters just fyi.
Also -- we saw on the menu that there is a surcharge for live entertainment. $3 / person per table. I've been to many 5 star establishments (which this one is not by any means) and never have seen a restaurant charging patrons additional for having live music. Like why are we paying for this? The least they could do is make patrons aware BEFORE they come (maybe when they set their reservation). Just seems very tacky to charge for subpar live jazz (trust me it wasn't the best).
All in all - we probably won't be back. The service was pretty terrible, completely ignored by the waitstaff -- however the hostess was apologetic on behalf of them. Management should train them in customer service a little more. Save yall money and check out a place that'll treat you a...
Read moreI had a frustrating experience at Pips on La Brea today. The customer service was extremely disappointing. After I clearly asked not to be approached, a staff member followed me to my table, which was both unprofessional and intrusive. Despite my polite request, he continued to engage with me. Please note that appearances can be deceiving—this pretty smile does not mean I tolerate poor service. The Manager Brandon is super unprofessional. Today's brunch was supposed to celebrate Fairfax High's 100 year anniversary and this Manager was horrible and ended everything on a very unpleasant note. I do not recommend you have any events here. I have photos of the staff packing up all the food that other folks paid for that was taken away early. SHAME on them.

Their response inaccurately claims that I did not make a payment, which is entirely false. Fairfax High coordinators, including Marla Wilson, paid $65 in advance for three individuals who ultimately did not attend. Later, we were informed that we needed to pay for an additional 23 people, bringing the total to $65 per person. Therefore, Pips on La Brea did not incur any loss from the Fairfax High Sentinel Celebration.
Marla Wilson has sent multiple emails and left several voicemails with no response, which is once again unacceptable.
I want to clarify that the issue wasn't about the to-go boxes. The real problem was that the food was removed more than 30 minutes before brunch ended, without any last call or warning. Additionally, I'm certain that the response I'm receiving is from the manager I had already complained about, not the owner. Brandon's attitude and disrespect towards not just me but others was unacceptable. I strongly encourage the owner to review the video footage, listen to the audio from Brandon’s microphone, and examine the photos I took to understand that this was not a minor issue. Moreover, Fairfax had reserved the restaurant for brunch that day and had paid in advance. It’s crucial for you to gather all the facts before addressing such a serious complaint about what occurred this past Sunday at Pips on La Brea.

Do to the price people said have your birthday brunch at the Pips. I had to give a $338.00 deposit to them to assure seating, I took off work hours early to meet the event planner she leaves everyday at 3:00 pm. I get there at 245 coming from a far. I asked can we start decorating at 1 pm being she suggested that time frame for my birthday brunch she says we only allow 30 minutes pisssed me, i felt it was a week away and you can't get your deposit back.
