For the past 17 years I (my wife for much longer) have been a loyal customer to a fresh off the boat Italian Deli on Balboa in Northridge. Today we cheated on them and visited San Carlo Italian Deli on Mason here in Chatsworth. We have a new favorite deli. From the instant I walked in I saw similarities in the two stores. The brands are the same. The pricing as well. But what stood out without question for me was the quality of the bread (made fresh daily) and the food. This deli serves traditional Italian sandwiches and plates. Their meatballs are to die for, and couple that with Pasqual (the owner served us personally) and the experience is over the top. Which would explain why every dining table both inside and out was taken. The smiles emanating from the other clients let us know we were in for a great experience long before we took our first bite. Shop here or dine here (or do both) either way you are in for a treat. And I now know that while I have a new love, I stayed in the family. Both of these deli’s are operated separately but, owned by the same family.

I had the San Carlo special. It was pretty good. I've had better subs at places like Jersey Mike's. However, San Carlo is very good at its slightly lower price point. I will go back to try some of their more expensive options to see how those compare. I also had some of their pizza bread. The pizza bread is very good, which gives me hope for their pizzas, so I will be trying those out as well and updating my review. I tried this place a couple more times and had the pastrami sandwich and a pepperoni pizza. Once again the sandwich was good, but not great, though I did prefer it over the last sandwich I got. The pizza is great though, well worth the cost.

I cannot say enough good things about San Carlos deli. From the family run business to the high quality standards of ingredients, to the wonderful people who treat you like family this place has it all. Two friends and I came and got a half meatball half sausage, San carlos special, and pastrami sandwich. All which I've had and all which are awesome. Ingredients topped high upon fresh bread, you won't be disappointed. They gave us free bread cheese appetizers as well. Their spumoni ice cream is great as well. Deli, sandwiches, icecream, everything you would want.

Best Italian deli around!

I grew up in Chatsworth and our fam would come here all the time. One time my dad and I went to San Carlos to get some turkey sandwiches. I didn't like tomatoes despite my Mediterranean heritage so we ordered two turkey sandwiches with everything on it, but one without tomatoes. When Giovanni gave us our sandwiches he said, "Two turkey sandwiches...one with everything on it..." He handed that one to my dad. Then he looks at me and playfully yells, "...and one with NOTHING on it!" Mind you, our sandwiches were identical except mine was sans tomatoes. Well, I figured I should embrace my Mediterranean heritage and heed Giovanni's overt suggestion. I now enjoy my turkey sandwiches with tomatoes on them.

Also, I took my then girlfriend/now wife there for the first time. She doesn't like to try new things. She just wanted a simple sandwich. While we were waiting, Giovanni fires up some panzerottis. Wifey didn't want to try it, but didn't want to offend Giovanni. Needless to say, whenever we make the trek back to Chatsworth to visit my 'rents who still live there, we purchase at least a dozen panzerottis each time.

I love this place and...

This place is amazing. Food is terrific. True Italian. Portions huge. Firemen, police, business people , regular people come here. Sandwiches great. Meatballs great. . Homemade cheesecake and eggplant Parmesan is awesome. Family owned and employees treated like family. Rolls so good. Freshly made. Fresh deli too with cold drinks and Italian groceries. Extremely homey feeling. Giovanni does not need to advertise as word of mouth has spread to the community for years.u can sit outside and eat. When pandemic is over u can sit inside. Some people sit here for hours because it is such a warm homey place one old man came here daily and sat and ate off and on first hours just to share conversation. . If u treat people well they come back. The atmosphere is friendly. The smell of food is heartwarming. Hundreds of patrons return for their lunches and early dinner daily . Come in and judge for yourself. U will be so pleased....
