This Starbucks is one of dozen locations in the US that are designed to mimic 1) the ambiance of the Tasting Room in Seattle with lots of wood, leather and brass as well as 2) the integration of the educational aspect of the Roastery. The Reserve bar is where you can have your coffee made one of five fancy ways in front of you while seated at the bar: Clover brewed (proprietary machine that includes immersion and vaccum filtration), pour-over, coffee press, Siphon, and Chemex. This La Brea location is LA's only store that offers this. The baristas are well-versed in coffee and are more than happy to tell you all about anything you want to know.
Aside from the experience, you can also take home the special single origin Reserve beans ($40 for a half pound is not crazy here), Reserve branded mugs, coffee accessories, and other branded merchandise.
Two out of the three baristas whom I interacted with were friendly, patient and ready to impart knowledge, in line with the philosophy of the Reserve locations: To provide a place that encourages patrons to come in, slow down, sit and enjoy a cup of really good coffee, and perhaps learn a thing or two about the coffee that they are drinking - a sentiment dear to mom-and-pop places that had long been abandoned by Starbucks the moment they went corporate.
I had the Melrose, which is a coffee's take on the Manhattan, with cherry bitters and cardamom sugar. Iced with cold brewed Starbucks reserve, this drink is unique and refreshing.
Even if you don't drink coffee or despise Starbucks, I would recommend a quick visit to enjoy the space. There are prepackaged foods and regular drinks that are known as Starbucks Classic, but the thing to get here is anything...
Read moreSo I got there at 5:16 pm I ordered 2 white toasted hot chocolates and one white chocolate mocha as I’m driving back headed towards Washington and la brea, I try my grande toasted white chocolate it was mocha coffee. I can not have caffeine I’m currently pregnant so I try all the warm drinks and there all white mocha coffee. I drive back even though there’s hella traffic and the register girl who ringed up my order was being really rude !trying to be smart and the night shift we’re debating inside through the window whether they were gonna replace my drink. I would understand if I said my order wrong but I asked her for the receipt because she was giving me a hard time and she got the order wrong again this is unacceptable i wasted my time and my money !!! As u can see my receipt this very unacceptable I shouldn’t have to feel stressed about fighting or arguing with a Starbucks worker !!! I hope I get the manager to reply back because it was distasteful and disrespectful. I even had to second guess if I should of gone back a second time again for a new order ! Why did you’re night shift staff felt so entitled whether they were gonna replace my drinks or not it’s was there mistake. And I did not drive back with intention to give them a hard time . But she decided to give me a pregnant customer...
Read moreI am rating my drive thru EXPERIENCE on Thursday 11/9 late night not the location overall. I have NEVER until tonight had a beyond horrible experience in the drive thru at this location. I’ve been on a break from late night runs until today. So tonight I order with relative ease. I get to the window and pay cash for my order. I am given incorrect change by the cashier . Mistakes happen #EasyFix and then I wait longer than I have ever waited for drinks in that drive thru. My iced drink wasn’t made as requested. It was fixed with a huffy begrudging attitude and then needed to be topped off when it was returned. That turned into more attitude from the partner. #StillShocked The cashier was clearly a new partner who tried to remain pleasant while the partner who’d made the drinks was just huffy. Once I pull off I open my hot drink only to find about a quarter of the drink not in the cup. (I have a picture) It was closing time and I literally couldn’t go back. The whole experience at the location and here at home have been an infuriating let down at end of a very long day. I work as a full time teacher who tutors when I leave work. I am a single mom who has to pick up my son from Campus at 10:00pm so this Sbux was run was supposed to have been my happy place...
