Teaspoon Sawtelle — Restaurant in Los Angeles

Firstly, this isn't your average boba joint. In one word, I would describe the product as 'unexpected.' I arrived about 5 minutes before opening and waited for the doors to open in my car. At 11am on the dot, I walked up and there was already a line of people. Always a good sign. The girl working behind the counter was very nice and polite. She was very candid with me about customer feedback on some of there product and gave me samples to make sure I'd like it before ordering, which I thought was great. I got my drink, a seasonal beverage that included Oolong tea, pumpkin foam and crushed Biscoff. I'll be honest, my first few sips didn't hit the craving as I expected. I'm very used to that artificial flavor, hyper-concentrated tea base and heavy barista milk blends commonly used at boba houses. You will not get that here. You can tell the tea was steeped in house. It is very light but pronounced. The drink is not heavy like other boba beverages. The tea was the dominant ingredient, with just a little of the foam/cream on top. Customarily, you see a big cup of milk with just a little bit of pre-bought tea concentrate- enough to change the color of the milk, but not here. If you order tea, you will recieve tea.. With that, after a few sips the drink grew on me. I drank the whole beverage, which I never do whenever I get boba because I end up with a stomach ache half-way through from all the milk and heaviness. I got a drink that I thought would leave me feeling sick the rest of the morning with cookies and pumpkin cream, however, it did not weigh me down at all or hurt my stomach. I really love the way this shop is doing things and I am definitely going to return to try more of their drinks! I would definitely recommend this business to any boba or tea aficionados. Came here 1:22 pm on a Saturday! No line when my sister and I walked in. I ordered their classic House Milk Tea, regular 100% sweetness with boba. I wanted to try their honey boba, but the staff member operating the cashier informed me they were currently making it and that it wouldn't be ready for another 30 minutes. So I chose to try the topping brown sugar crystal instead... and she actually gave me the topping free without charge because of that! That was nice of them.

I LOVED my drink. And no, it's not because I got the brown sugar crystal toppings free of charge. The House Milk Tea was not out of this world amazing quality but it's not cheap quality either, it is good!--sweet but not overly sweet, light hints of the tea, and the brown sugar crystals were not too sweet and actually satisfied my boba topping cravings. I didn't taste too much milk or cream... it was just the perfect balance for me.

I'm pretty boring and always only order house milk teas. I personally enjoyed Teaspoon's House Milk Tea more that Coco's, Noble Tea, Volcano and YiFang Taiwanese Fruit Tea down the street. I would rank this as my #1 new favorite house milk tea drink in Sawtelle. Hopefully it tastes just as good the next time I order it. I definitely will be...

We love love love the ladybug!!! The seasonal flamingo is yummy too! The caramel and jasmine is also a fave. We havent found any place else that has an equivalent product to ladybug using what we feel is fresh passionfruit instead of just the flavor.

We typically order ahead with the ap so that we can be in and out of the busy chaos of sawtelle. However, There has been a couple of times that the ap said the lady bug was sold out AND WE WERE BUMMED OUT…but when we went into the store it is available. Yay!!! Happy surprise! So we always just go in and ask just in case the ap doesnt have up to date info. The store is always clean and there has probably been only 1 or 2 times that we had an extensive wait most likely due to not enough staff vs the number of customers during that time.
