The Star Bar — Restaurant in Los Angeles

The Star Bar? When was I at.. Oh the dive at the ground floor at the Ramada? The locals call it the bar up the street from the Pike. But now that the Pike is closed until someone comes to town and reopens it again (hopefuly with some lights and bartenders who aren't 50 year old dudes. If we wanted to drink somewhere dark and dingy we'd go to the Candy Cat... Oh wait.) but this review isnt about why the other bars are gone but why the Star Bar is still around. Beats me. I will say that no matter what night of the week it is, you will be served in 3 minutes. 5 if the bartender is outside smoking. Your cup will be clean and your beer will be cold. I think they serve cocktails, but Ive never had one as their beer selection is top notch. Its no Yard House, but they have one of every style beer. And its always been good. The crowd is on the younger side. 25 to 35. Ive never seen anything resembling a fight or even a tiff. Why only 4 stars? Because its a dive bar! If you're looking for a sports bar keep looking. Whos idea was it to put electronic dart machines between the entrance and the bar? But they moved them to the guys that dont want to yell at their dates...

I came here on Saturday, January 11 with two of my friends and we were greeted by the bartender, Hanna who was wearing a purple shirt and had blonde hair, who didn’t seem very welcoming.

My friend had to use the bathroom and the first thing out of her mouth was “Do you have money?!”. Now I understand places have customer only restroom policies but the way she tried to explain that was not hospitable at all. Of course in order to avoid trespassing, we ordered some food and drinks.

Now the next part just gets worse. When our food came we wanted to sit outside because that’s where we were already seated but Hanna says “WHY DO YOU NEED TO SIT OUTSIDE?!! WHY CANT YOU JUST SIT INSIDE?!!” and I was completely thrown aback. Her reasoning was “It’s too windy and I don’t want the food to fly away!” but it wasn’t even that windy outside. It sounded to me she didn’t want to do either her job or the barback’s job and clean up after the guests

The food was good and the atmosphere was chill but Hanna was none of the above. I definitely would go back when I’m back in town but Hanna needs to fix her attitude first...

★☆☆☆☆ Absolutely Trash Establishment – Avoid at All Costs

I came to Star Bar for all of 30 seconds—literally just to return a pool stick I had borrowed from a buddy. Didn’t even walk inside. While standing outside, one of their drunk regulars—clearly overserved—immediately started threatening me for no reason. This wasn’t some back-and-forth; the guy got up, walked off the patio, came onto the public sidewalk, and got in my face.

I defended myself. That’s it. He ended up on the ground, and I walked away. The bar’s response? They 86’d me—not the aggressive drunk they kept feeding alcohol to—but the guy who showed restraint until his personal space was completely invaded.

This place has a shady, volatile crowd, terrible judgment, and a staff that protects their reckless regulars no matter what they do. If you’re into garbage service, toxic regulars, and being blamed for other people’s drunken stupidity, by all means—check out Star Bar. Otherwise, steer clear. It’s not worth your time or...
