I was expecting trendy, and the place delivered, though it wasn't blindingly stylish or even slightly ridiculous. In fact, it had a somewhat homey feel to it. It especially reminded me of meals in the house in which I grew up, only a few blocks from Los Angeles International Airport. In other words, the place was designed with acoustics to reflect rather than absorb sounds, making the dining room one of the noisiest of my experience. High ceiling, minimalistic decorations, comfortable chairs and solid, sturdy tables made it feel comfortable while simultaneously making it louder than a heavy metal concert. My hackles didn't rise the moment I entered the place, which is a good sign, though my ears and throat ached when we left because I had to shout to be heard by my companions, who were only three feet away.

The service was superb. Our waitress came by frequently to make sure that everything was as we liked it, without being overly obtrusive and bothersome. The whole staff wore smiles that were either genuine, or the management sends all of the employees to learn-how-to-fake-a-convincing-smile acting classes. This usually results from good management and employees who love their jobs and feel appreciated. I wish more businesses would learn this secret: if the customer feels that the employees around him are happy in their work, he will be a repeat customer (unless the food sucks). Either the owners/managers are very well trained, or they have an innate understanding of how to handle workers and keep them on the payroll.

On a more negative note, I can't say that I was impressed with the food. My honey glazed chicken wings were overcooked, as was my wife's rotisserie chicken (which is surprising, as even Costco can get rotisserie chicken right), though both were nicely seasoned. The prices were a bit high for my tastes; coupled with small servings, I wouldn't recommend this place for those on a fixed budget. My mom had the half cob salad, which she thoroughly enjoyed, although the size of the salad wasn't what I would call huge for nearly $10.

I would recommend this place for my trendy friends (of which I have none) and those for whom style and being seen in the right places are more important than really great food. In defense of the restaurant and their pricing, I believe that they only use the freshest ingredients and--very likely--only organically grown vegetables... because it's trendy. Environmentalists--especially trendy ones--will tell you that organic produce is higher in nutrition than regular store-bought veggies, even though there is not one scrap of legitimate scientific evidence to support such a claim. One thing is for certain: organic veggies cost three times as much as the store-bought variety. If Truxton Bistro uses such ingredients, it isn't surprising that they have to charge so much for such...

Seasonal Item Review: It was packed, but we didn't need to wait more than 15 minutes before being seated. My husband and I ordered sandwiches and selected from the "Seasonal Items". I loved my Ted's Turkey! Think the day after Thanksgiving, with slices of turkey, cranberry sauce and more! The coleslaw in this sandwich truly adds a nice crunch and flavor. My husband ordered the Crispy Hot Chicken and he said it was really good. The only issue was that it was hard to eat due to the fried chicken. He used a fork and knife. Both sandwiches had their house coleslaw which is very tasty.

Do come in and try the Seasonal items before they leave the menu! December 2024

I came here for my Birthday month and got $20 off! I ordered the Salmon Sambol Bowl which is one of their seasonal items. Chili basil marinated salmon on a bed of riced cauliflower & brown rice with chopped broccoli, carrots, green & red bell pepper, topped with chili basil sauce, creamy sriracha, sesame seeds, crispy green onions, and fresh sliced avocado

My husband ordered Pablo's Breakfast Burrito Scrambled eggs, pepper jack cheese, chicken sausage, pico de gallo, lettuce & chipotle crema wrapped in a flour tortilla. Served with Fruit or Potatoes. Option to Substitute Egg Whites

We enjoy sitting at the bar so we can chat with Hilda, who is always so attentive and friendly, along with the other staff.

We enjoy Truxtons because of their variety of food and the friendly staff!

Large adjacent parking lot.

I was a regular at their Santa Monica location and I really miss Truxtons, so I drove down here to their Westchester( original) location and had a blast!

Some of the Santa Monica workers are here! Yay! I came alone and didn't have to wait, because I chose to sit at the bar, which is always fun and cozy!

I ordered one of the new Seasonal Menu items: Mushroom ravioli and it truly was delicious with crispy mushrooms added on top. I didn't order the daily cocktail, $9, because they were in the process of making it. I had fun chatting with Marcos, the mixologist, with suggestions on what to name the drink.

Nate was my server who has a great attitude with a smile! It seems the staff here all work well together. On a Saturday afternoon, 2pm, the place was packed and happening!

Truxtons is a place to come alone, or with a group. One always feels welcome!

Free parking lot...

There are times in life when people surprise you. I think the same is true of places. Truxton’s in Los Angeles was one such place, and indeed a wonderful dining experience to conclude our LA trip(being conveniently located close to LAX airport).

There was a 5-10 minute wait when we arrived(an early Friday evening). The wait only increased as the evening progressed, indicating that the place was indeed popular. Benedict, our server, was kind and hospitable through and through. He ensured all our requests were met.

For food, we got:

Chili Basil Salmon: A magical salmon dish with salmon marinated in sambal, ginger and lemongrass-it blew us away! We could really taste the ginger coming through subtly. The salmon itself was smooth as butter. The green beans on the side were another healthy accompaniment. 10/10 indeed!

Wild Mushroom Linguine: A tasty pasta dish suitable for vegetarians—the linguine was well-done and went well with the roasted garlic cream sauce. We were hooked to it with the first bite. 10/10 again

Turkey Lasagna: A delicious concoction of turkey, ricotta and romano cheese, tomatoes and garlic cream sauce—we finished the dish pretty fast, 🤤. The fine balance of flavors hit our palate and made us yearn for the next bite. 10/10

Monkey Bread: A bread lover’s delight—we didn’t feel ashamed as our primordial instincts took over pulling apart the house-made bread with cheddar cheese and garlic! It was so good we ordered another, and shared it.

The IPAs(local) and ciders were great too. We didn’t have desserts(something to look forward to on our next visit).

To sum up our experience, while we were waiting, I started chitchatting with an older woman, who said it was one of those places that just “gets” it, and makes you keep returning. It wasn’t fine dining, but not all experiences have to be. We loved Truxton’s overall and highly recommend it!

There’s a free, large parking lot right next to Truxton’s, and chances are high you might find parking easily there. Be prepared for a wait if you visit during peak hours. Seating inside is in...

My wife and I had dinner here ahead of an event at a nearby bookshop. We'd been to the now-closed location in Santa Monica and remember being pleasantly surprised by the extensive menu and vegetarian-friendly options there, plus cocktails, so we confidently chose this Westchester location to eat as it was near to where we needed to be. The overall experience was good, albeit not quite as great as the 5 stars I gave to the other location. The menu is huge, and they highlight what's vegetarian, so it's easy to go in with that diet and feel like a first-class citizen. I opted for the plant-based Veggie "Steak" Tacos. Kudos to Truxton's for offering serious vegetarian options like this. It tasted really great though the 2 tacos were so over-stuffed with content that they were impossible to eat like a taco and fell apart as soon as I tried to pick one up. On one hand, I appreciate the generous portion size...on the other, the same amount of food in these 2 tacos would have been better served and more manageable to eat if they had added a third tortilla and made it three tacos. There are a lot of other vegetarian options to choose from in every menu category, so you definitely won't go hungry here, and if you're a repeat customer, you can potentially have a different dining experience every time you're there. The atmosphere is upscale for an American restaurant and the drinks look great. We would try it again if we were in Westchester.
