Read moreI've been to this place a large handful of times over the past 5 years and it's always been really good. Very flavorful and complex broth, good noodles and pork, good add-ons - everything you want a ramen place to be. Like many of the other reviews state, I would've told you that this place is up there with any ramen spot on the west side. Until yesterday. I went with another person who had never been before, and a few moments after we dug in, we both looked up at each other and pretty much said at the same time that this ramen tasted pretty bad. The broth was completely different than how I remembered it. I'm not gonna claim to have a super refined palate, but to me there was a large amount of fish flavor and not a whole lot else going on. Even the texture was pretty watery and not how I remembered it from before. I had to tell the person I was with "I swear this place used to be amazing!" We were both starving and neither of us finished our bowl. Honestly the ramen tasted like something I'd expect to get in a small town where nobody has ever had real ramen before.
The service was still good and the appetizers we got were fine. Maybe this was just an off night, and I'd give this place another shot based on its track record, but this experience was a...
Read moreThe food was good, but the hostess here was SO aggressive for no reason. From the minute we walked in, we immediately faced the brunt of her terrible mood and she continued to take it out on us, other customers, and her fellow staff. After we put our name down, we waited in the front for a table and she yelled at us to get out, even though it was cold and raining outside. Mind you, no other party after was told this. Fine whatever, we come back after our table is ready and she sits us at the bar, even though parties behind us were seated at tables. Then she continues to huff and puff, roll her eyes, stomp around, and generally just have her stank attitude ruin everyone’s mood in the joint.
I’m really hoping it wasn’t a race thing (we were all east/south Asian) because this is a ramen joint, but we’re truly stumped at who or what pissed in her cheerios. Maybe my husband looked like an ex? Maybe my friend reminded her of her childhood bully? Who knows.
The other front house staff member was incredibly sweet though. Maybe she sensed the hostess was being unreasonable and felt bad, but we appreciated it! More of her and less of the...
