I think everyone and their mother has heard about how great Zankou's chicken is, but really reviews do no justice. If you've never been here then you MUST try this place.
I walked in to place a to-go order and when I got to the counter I just stared at the menu for a few minutes because everything looked so damn delicious. The girl behind the counter was sweet and greeted me and told me to take the time. The manager Afif was standing by the pick-up counter helping run orders and asked if he could make a suggestion. SO GLAD he did because, although it's not on the menu, you can get half shwarma and half tarna which totally makes my life easier.
I took him up on his advice and also ordered the half chicken, tabouleh, and rice. The tabouleh was great, not too garlicky like some places. The chicken piece was moist, and the skin crispy, and I love that they include a couple hot chili peppers in the order. The shwarma and tarna were my favorite though, just exploding with flavor, I could eat it all day until the end of days.
I'm not sure about the other reviews, but the customer service I received was unmatched. Afif continued to make sure I received the best service the whole time I was there, and he greeted everyone that walked in. He was even nice enough to open the door for me since my hands were full.
This place has definitely earned my continued patronage and I can't wait to come back!
BTW the only thing I would have changed is I probably should've gone with the family meal instead since I ended up getting 2 sides anyway....

I am sorry to say that I had a bad experience at the Zankou Chicken in West LA last Monday 17 May. The food was great, as always, but the service was not.
I tried to place a phone order last night at about 9:30 PM, but could not because every time I called, the person answering the phone hung up on me; not even a "hello," just immediately hung up, even after calling back a couple of times. Once I got to the location, I placed my order and asked to speak with the manager. The acting manager spoke with me, a very nice young man. He was very apologetic, explaining that the location is understaffed. I said that I understood, but this was no reason to hang up on customers.
On top of everything else, the woman who took my order got the sides completely wrong. I didn’t discover this until I got home, at which time I was so tired and frustrated that I didn’t bother going back to get the right sides.
This is not the first time I’ve had this location's employees hang up on me when I tried to place a phone order. The last time this happened, at around the same time, I was told that the problem was again due to “understaffing.”
There are some issues at the West LA location that need to be addressed by management. I have asked them to do so by posting my experience on the Zankou Chicken website shortly after the incident. As of Saturday 22 May, they have...

They are well known for their fast food, casual style specifically for their chicken and Shawarma meats. I have known about Zankou for many years but stopped in for my first time for lunch on Friday. They have a fairly large menu with a lot of great options, all with Middle Eastern flavors. They have many tables inside, but most people were getting it to go. They don’t have a parking lot but street parking is easy to find and there is a small strip mall next-door that has free parking as well. They were quite busy during their lunch service, but all of my food items came out very quickly after ordering.
This is not the best chicken or Shawarma that I have had in Los Angeles, but it is still good. That is why I am giving a 4/5. I chose the combo plate for my meal, which is a mix of chicken and beef. I actually liked the beef a bit more than the chicken, I felt that it was juicier. The portion sizes here are very large and the pricing is very fair so it’s quite popular with families and those looking for a good deal.
I would recommend and plan to be back to try more items. They are conveniently located all over town so finding one is very...
