Thai Spice is a small casual restaurant with a large menu of the usual Thai (and a few Chinese) dishes. My wife and I live nearby and have gone there occasionally over the years for dine-in and take-out meals. The food has usually been ok but the table service has been erratic. Prices have always been reasonable (at least by Los Gatos standards) given the portion sizes. In our opinion, it’s an average neighborhood place but we wouldn’t go out of our way to dine there.

Our latest meal was a takeout order of BBQ chicken ($13.95) with jasmine rice ($2.50) and a side of 3 veggie egg rolls ($9.95). The boneless, skinless chicken pieces were marinated in a very mild sauce and then grilled. The chicken was tender but the sauce was a bit too sticky-sweet. We both liked the egg rolls, which were perfectly crispy on the outside and tender inside. One meal was plenty of food for both of us.

The place was empty and tables in the main dining room hadn’t been set when I picked up my order at 6pm on a Friday, which is unusual for a downtown Los Gatos restaurant. There is no outdoor seating.

It was reassuring to see that the staff wore latex gloves and masks. But we were concerned when we noticed afterwards that the restaurant was rated poorly in its most recent health department inspection (March 8, 2022). A total of seven health code violations were recorded including unclean equipment and utensils, inadequate knowledge of food management, and unapproved thawing of frozen food. Yuck! I wish we checked before ordering because I’m sure we would’ve avoided the place based on that score. (If you’re interested, there’s a handy link to health department reports in the Yelp reviews for many restaurants.)

My rating of average should probably be lower after reading the health department report, but their previous reports have been good so this one may just...

Because I feel sorry for small businesses I give Thai Spice 2 stars. Now at the end of the shutdown you would expect restaurants that were so greatly impacted to be happy to get customers coming in. But I didn’t experience that from Thai Spice. I ordered two dishes for takeout and I was given the choice of meats. Sounds great so far. I walked there, about a mile pulling my daughter in a wagon. When I ordered I asked for a combination of Chicken and tofu. I was told it would cost $2 more which I was happy to pay the extra to get both selection. After walking the return mile I sat down to eat but to my dismay there seemed to be twice as much tofu and half or nearly none of the chicken. I feel taken advantage of since I’m sure they figured that I wasn’t likely to walk back to claim my shortage of children. Had i dinned in the restaurant I would have complained and I’m sure they would have remedied the oversight. Maybe this restaurant is a nice place with good food and great service on the edge of the Los Gatos Old Downtown area. But not today at the edge of a Pandemic. Service should work both ways. Businesses should do more than expected rather than less for those few patrons willing to...

Tonight was my first experience at this Thai restaurant. It was such a disappointing experience and not what I expected at all. They have the worst customer service ever. First thing I ordered was an appetizer (Fried Calamari), it came with a special sauce; however, when I asked for more sauce they waiter refused to bring me more, saying "I am not sure if I can bring you more", even though I told him it was ok if they charged me extra for the sauce. After 30 minutes, when we finally received our dinner, our waiter did not even ask if we needed anything. After 10 minutes when we were half way done with our meal, the waiters kept coming and asking if we were done even though they could clearly see that more than half of our food was left. Finally when we asked for the check, it took them almost 10 minutes to bring it for us. This restaurant heavily lacks customer service and plus the staff are very rude including the manager or whoever the person in charge of this place is. I would never ever come back to this place and please do not go here if you are trying to have a nice...

They do not have their own parking but there is street parking. Lunch isn't too busy but maybe it's because it's still early? The lunch specials are a fair price and nicely portioned. The soup and salad they serve with lunch are basic but tasty! I got the yellow curry lunch special, it was flavorful, very mild spiciness to it, and a little on the ticker side. I also got pad see ew, because who doesn't like noodles.... it tasted a chard but I don't mind. Noodles were cooked perfectly. It's a large portion which is great. Service is as expected for a thai place. Overall, I would come back. Good prices for portions and food was good.

Reservations would serve you well here, as we waited for 15 to 20 without one. Once seated, it was worth the wait. This restaurant has been a staple in downtown LG for 15+ years. But the remodel made it a bit more upscale. I had the catfish with green curry, which was excellent. I went spicy, and yes you can choose! Spring rolls did not disappoint, my wife had the pompano delight which we highly recommend if you like whole-fish dishes. My kids enjoyed the food too! Overall it was a great experience and we'll be back!
