Fist of all going to say if you are going to do any kind of seafood restaurant or "fresh" fish in south Louisiana it has to be very good and needless to say this isn't the case with Bonefish grill. I took my mother here today for her birthday because we have eaten almost every restaurant in our town and this was a highly recommended restaurant. Well, hate to say it but driving all the way from out of town to try this restaurant was not worth it at all because both my mother and I were very disappointed in the quality of food. In my hometown there are a lot of Cajun restaurants that we have eaten at that serve fresh fish and you can tell verses the so called "fresh" fish served here. I don't know where they are ordering the fish from but I know several fisherman in my town and fish myself; and what they serve is not fresh at all. Anyway, getting to what was ordered to make my point even further my mom got the so called "fresh" catch of the day which was the cedar salmon and I got the cod imperial because the waiter suggested anything with the fish logo on it was good. Well I can tell you that the salmon was undercooked and was not very fresh tasting at all. As for my dish, it was the same situation not only not fresh but also undercooked, and to make it worse it was covered in some kind of sauce that tasted like mayonnaise. The cod imperial according to the menu is supposed to have stuffed seafood in it and if it did whatever they stuffed it with must of been smaller than an ant or non-existent at all. Also, according to the menu it is supposed to be topped with mozzarella cheese and again this was not the case but instead had mayonnaise tasting sauce on it. Now for the sides they are a joke for proportions, you get six French fries and a spoon size of mash potatoes. Come on the cheapest things are potatoes and you can't give people decent portions of them for the prices you pay for the food it's not worth it at all. Also, we did get the fried artichoke appetizer served on a bed of a lettuce which was a joke because you only get about 8 pieces due to the bed of lettuce making it look more when it comes out. Anyway, the moral of everything is if you are going to try and be a five star restaurant and serve small portions to people for high prices please please learn how to cook seafood especially in south Louisiana where you can get fresh fish anywhere. Now that I made my point about the food the only positive thing about this place was the waiter and atmosphere other than that this a no go ever again in my books. Next time, I want "fresh" fish dishes and celebrate my mom's birthday, I will do it at home or do it at one of our local restaurants in...
Read moreMy husband and I try to avoid chain restaurants, we like to find local places, mom and pop shops and family owned. I was surprised when he suggested we try Bonefish Grill and I was really surprised at how “not chain food style” the food was.
Visited 03/24 about 6:00 p.m.
We were seated at the same time a party of 16 was seated and expected (dreaded) to have wait for a while to get our orders, but the staff is on the ball here, we didn’t have to wait at all.
As someone who has worked as a server over the last 30 years, I was impressed with how well the large party was taken care of and none of the two, three and four tops got ignored.
That’s a staff that works well together!
Bravo to the folks who make the back of the house run so smoothly so the front looks so effortless.
We had the ceviche and fried calamari as appetizers, both were delicious!
Ordering either one is a bit of a crap shoot, chances are it isn’t going to be all that great, but we are fools and always hope for the best when we make the ceviche or calamari choices. We will go back to Bonefish just for the fact we know we can order the items and be happy with what is brought out!
We both had the fish and chips and this was the only down side to the whole meal:
WAY-WAY-WAY too much breading on the fish which leads to the breading being excessively greasy.
We both ate the cod out of the breading. The fillets were perfect! Not the least bite greasy or over cooked.
We joked with each other about the fact it was like having to dig thru a shell to get crab or lobster!
I’d suggest they dial back the batter, but if they did, the fillets might not be so good! The “over breading” won’t stop us from going back for the fish and...
Read moreThe Corn and Crab Chowder was delicious as always and came with either 2 Alaskan Cod or 2 Bang Bang Shrimp Tacos in a lunch special!
I'm so glad I ordered one of each taco (shrimp and cod) because they were both so good - light enough for lunch but flavorful enough to savor (even with the sauce on the side)!
Recently I finally had a chance to try the brunch menu. Everything was tasty and reasonably priced. We enjoyed the Seafood Johnny Cakes, Surf-n-Turf Eggs Benedict, Oscar Omlet, and endless mimosas!
Loren and Nelson are great :)
Update: Minus 1-star because the chef or manager on duty refused to acommodate our special requests last time. We asked for the Seafood Johnny Cakes without the poached eggs and were told "that's how it comes." As a regular, I really don't appreciate that. We enjoyed sharing the Johnny Cakes as an appetizer, but I hope I can have it with scambled eggs or no eggs next time. I was also told they only have mozzarella and parmesan cheese when I asked for shredded cheddar to go with my side of grits. I find that hard to believe, but the grits turned out to be delicious as prepared. Next time I have an issue with the menu, I would appreciate if the chef or manager delivers any bad news personally instead of sending a messenger. Too much room for misinterpretation and confusion. Also, I support enough really great local restaurants that I don't need to keep going to a chain. Good food is everywhere in New Orleans.
Final Opinion: Great food, usually great service but not always.
