I rarely write reviews, but the service was bad enough to make me do so. I will try to be as impartial as possible without sounding like a cranky boomer:
Weekday visit. Not crowded, not peak time. Celebrating a birthday.
We order an appetizer, which didn't arrive with plates or silverware. Not a huge deal and wasn't the source of the complaint -- but just adds to the end result. It was provided when asked for. We also ordered two alcoholic beverages.
We ordered four entrees. After a normal amount of time, two were brought out. When the server did a check-back about 10 minutes later we said we hadn't yet gotten two of our entrees yet, server gave a "hmm" and they walked back without another word. One of the remaining entrees was brought out 10 minutes later, missing a side item. The server returned a third time ten minutes later to ask how the food was and we (again) said we were still completely missing our final entree. It had been 30+ minutes by this time since the first entree was brought out. The first two entrees were eaten by this point as we politely offered them to eat without us.
We finally get the fourth entree.
Someone comes out (who I presume was the manager, they didn't introduce themselves) and apologizes that it took so long to get our entree/s. They ask if we need anything else, we say no. They leave.
I don't ever expect free food or any sort of comp, but when the bill arrived I was a little shocked that there had been no deduction or effort by the restaurant at all to "make it right." If it was indeed the manager that approached the table, it shouldn't necessitate the guest to speak up to correct the house's error which I assume is what they meant by "do you need anything else?"
I worked in the service industry. I don't complain much at all, I get there are off-days, but this was pretty egregious. I would not be writing this if the restaurant was a little more apologetic than saying "Sorry, do you need anything else?" or the server having the awareness to know that their table doesn't even have their food before asking how it is (twice!).
The food was great. The staff wasn't unpleasant. The...
Read moreA Full Circle Moment at Boulevard American Bistro, Covington
I recently had the pleasure of dining at the Covington location and I just have to say what a wonderful experience it was. I've always considered the Metairie location favorite-I've been going there quite literally since I was in a baby carrier back in the early 80's. My mom and dad had a local office supply company on Veterans Blvd. next to Houston's Metairie when it first opened, and they made it a daily lunch spot, bringing my sister and me along from the time we were babies. Over the years, my family celebrated birthdays, graduations, and countless special moments there.
When Creole Cuisine took over and kept the concept & interior as close to the original as possible, I was beyond grateful. It's a place that holds so many memories for me, and now, I get to create new ones with my own family. Taking my young daughter to the Covington location for the first time was a true full-circle moment. We had a Daddy daughter date and she asked to go to the place that has the child's menu where she gets the grilled cheese and fries every time, along with a Shirley Temple w/ "3" cherry's.
What makes this place so special is more than just the food, but the staff. They've always been professional and friendly, but on this visit, they went above and beyond to make my daughter feel special. I think I counted five or six staff members who personally came up to compliment her on her dress, and our server (I believe his name was Bryan) was fantastic and just as friendly and accommodating. NO other restaurant makes me feel like this!
It's comforting and heartwarming to have this beloved restaurant now in Covington, especially after my recent move to the area. Thank you for preserving the experience that's meant so much to me over the years - and now, to my daughter as well. I'll be back often with the rest...
Read moreHad lunch there and it was good. By 12:45pm it was so crowded there was no place in the parking lot, so arrive early. The place is brand new, so everything is nice and clean. It has a very corporate/chain restaurant feel to it. It's a lot like a Zea's in type of restaurant and prices. Although everything is more expensive now, the same is here. I had the soup of the day, clam chowder. $9 for a shallow bowl. Had the Caesar salad, small w/ chicken, $15. So about $25 for lunch w/o out a drink. The soup was very good. Caesar salad too, a lot like the ones as La Madeline. Service was 'over service'. I think because it is a new restaurant the servers are trying too much, but also not the best. My friend asked for ketchup on his sandwich and it wasn't on it. Had to ask two waiters for it afterwards. Then the checked on us too much. It's nice to be able to eat and talk and not be interrupted too much. But they interrupted too much here.
Overall pretty good for a upper medium priced chain restaurant, but really nothing too unique about the...
