Overpriced and not that good. The frosting to cake ratio is off. There's way too much frosting. While we're talking about the frosting, it tastes like nothing but sugar. The wedding cake flavor isn't bad, but even that one is lacking. And the chocolate? What chocolate? It doesn't even taste like chocolate.
I always end up just scraping almost all of the frosting off and eating the cake itself, which is is pretty decent.
The fruit filling you can get just tastes like generic store bought gel, like a low-quality pie filling. Like the frosting, it too is exceptionally sweet.
I'm told that it didn't used to be this way, but I really can't remember.
I sure do miss the old spic and span. Those are the cakes I grew up on. I'll just stick to making my own cakes these days. Loads cheaper, and loads better. You can do wonders with a box of Duncan Hines by just making a few simple changes. Milk instead of water. An extra third cup of flour and sugar each. Double the butter. One extra egg yolk. Easy...
