Our recent visit to this location was very disappointing. The only saving Grace here is the bar area and the cocktails they serve. The honey, badger cocktail was quite good. We started by ordering the crawfish queso and pork skins appetizer. Then we ordered the club sandwich to split with the “hand cut” fries up charge option. When the appetizer arrived l, they had substituted homemade potato chips for the pork skins. They asked us, after the fact, if this was ok we said no of course since this is City Pork after all. They said they were making more pork skins but implied that it would take too long. I wonder if they were planning to charge us the full price with that substitution? After they took the appetizer back, they asked if we wanted something else. We looked at the menu, but thought the appetizer would come out at the same time as the entrée, so we declined another appetizer. At that point the club sandwich showed up with lukewarm fries (potentially held up for the appetizer) which strangely resembled McDonald’s fries. I must say if these are hand cut by them, they are an incredibly accurate knock off. But if you’re going to up charge for “hand cut” fries, make sure they are hand cut fries and hot. As for the sandwich, I don’t think I would recommend it since the only positive is their meat (what little there is). There’s also not much in the way of any dressing or mayo, there is only the slightest hint of honey mustard. That said I hope this is not indicative of all locations but I would definitely not recommend this location for a lunch...
Read moreEntered to have breakfast and read a sign that directed us to the bar area only. Every table had a reserved sign on it so we proceeded to the bar to ask if seating only at the bar was available. The two employees didn't seem to understand the reason for the question. It was finally clarified that any empty table was available. The original table we had chosen was by them occupied by someone who evidently knew that the reserve signs meant nothing, leaving us with only a tiny table or bar height tables to choose from. The coffee maker was broken, thus no coffee at breakfast. Perhaps a complimentary beverage could have been offered in lieu of the traditional breakfast bev not being available. With our breakfast meal, which included biscuits, no butter or jelly was included or offered. When asked for, one tiny jelly was brought. The men's restroom was in horrendous shape. Water, towels, etc. strewn all over. The food was delicious. The grits were superb and the bacon was some of the best I've had. The strawberries were delicious, juicy and sweet. It was our first time trying their breakfast and we were glad they were open, they didn't seem...
Read moreI want to lead with that this review is solely based on food and not on service or atmosphere. I don’t know what the deal is with this location, but every time I eat here, the food is not good. The Jefferson location is beyond amazing every time, but there is some sort of disconnect between that one and this one.
I only order the brisket sandwich with Mac n cheese, it’s my absolute favorite. I ordered this meal Friday night and there must have been 1 ounce of meat on my sandwich. It was pathetic. After I put together my entire sandwich, while it was good, all I tasted was bread because that’s how little meat I had. And I’m sorry, but that is not a cheap sandwich and they put way more meat at the Jefferson location.
What also disappointed me, was the Mac n cheese. It had ZERO flavor. The plainest mac I’ve ever eaten. 0/10 would recommend. And there was no breadcrumbs like the one at Jefferson.
I’ve now tried this location 5 times and every time I am disappointed. I even hyped up the brisket sandwich to friends and they said they didn’t care for it. They need to figure it out at Highland because every one I spoke to about this...
