Update: I hate to speak poorly about restaurants and staff, having worked many years in restaurants myself. However, I don't think I'll be back after last night, Friday night. They were pretty busy, no wait, though. I stopped by to place an order to go and get a margarita. I walked to the bar and grabbed an open seat at the end. The bar was not busy, but there were several seats that had not been cleared after others finished there masks and delayed. Someone behind the bar, not sure if she was a bartender, waitstaff, bar back, glanced at me as she was yelling at one of the waitstaff on the floor. She was speaking Spanish, so I am not sure what the issue was, although I don't think it matters. A few minutes later, she looked up at me, clearly annoyed that I was there. I told her I simply wanted to place an order to go and get a margarita while I waited. Her response, "No one is going to wait on you." And she then went back to whatever she was doing, which was actually just fidgeting. With that, I got up and walked out.
I've been in the weeds plenty of times, but never been rude and dismissive to customers. Hopefully she was having a bad, very bad, night and usually interacts with customers with a much better attitude.
Regardless, there is nothing too special about this chain to warrant putting up with our overlooking this. There are plenty other restaurants around. Be in fact another, local, Mexican restaurant just a few blocks away was happy to take my order and prepares a very tasty dinner and margarita. Thank you, Burrito Grill!
The menu is exactly what you would expect from a chain, Mexican, dine-in restaurant. It's pretty consistent, good, but not remarkable in any way. Lowered to 3 stars because their website is a disaster and the recently stopped serving margaritas to go with take out orders. There are other options that are comparable and a bit better, but unfortunately El Paso is the only option in the area that closes at 10. To be fair, 3 stars in a city that thrive on extraordinary cuisine is pretty respectable, and given the competing, may...
Read moreOur first and last time dinning at EL PASO Mexican Grill in Chalmette. For what we believed to be a wonderful birthday celebration for my son-in-law turns out to be one of the worst restaurant experience ever. From the moment we entered the restaurant. Although the greeter wasn't big on smiles our waiter whom didn't give his name was very polite and friendly when taking our drink and appetizer orders. I ordered a top-shelf margarita and my son-in-law ordered two Coronas and specifically said do not add lime, three Cokes and a couple of queso dips. It took 24 minutes for me to receive the margarita, the two Coronas came to the table with lime shoved inside the bottle and the queso dip was watered down. My son-in-law told the waiter that he did not like the queso dip; the waiter asked him why and proceeded to call the manager (Leo) who also happens to be the unfriendly greeter whom wasn't big on smiles. When (Leo) the manager approach the table there wasn't any pleasantries. He asked what was the problem with the queso dip, my son-in-law replied by saying it was watery. Leo seemed to get upset, he snatch the bowl off the table and walked away. My son-in-law called him back and said because of your negative disposition I'd like to have the check please....We'll never go back to that place again, I don't know about other people but good service goes a long way with me and to say Leo was the manager he definitely do not lead by good examples....save your money.... you'll have a better...
Read moreWe didn't get a chance to get our food that we ordered instead they took our order and told us it would be ready in 15 mins . So we drove from Kenilworth to get our food . We get there and all the lights was turned off only one of the waiters was outside to talk to they told us they had closed . So I asked why didn't you tell us you was closing. So the next day I went up to speak to the manager on why I was able to order food and they closed the doors. All she could say was the girl they hired to be the hostess didn't know ...she didn't offer to get our food didn't any queso she could barley say sorry . All she could really say was they have been losing money on people ordering and not picking up. And they had to throw it away. I told her she didn't have to throw it away cause I was there to get it u just closed the door. I just think it was bad business and very unprofessional from the managers part. She left us with a feeling that she...
