Our family's favorite Mexican restaurant.
We have eaten at a lot of Mexican restaurants in the area and found that they all seem very similar. Whether it be the menu items, portions size, taste etc. Very mundane.
The first time at George's it became a family favorite. Kids say it tastes fresh. I personally don't know how close to authentic it is, but I can only say the difference is that it's made with love!
I get the chalupas every time I go. Love this dish but I wish they would give you more than two chalupas shells. The chalupas are a lot thinner than you would expect and crispier. I get the beef ones, and the beef and toppings are placed onto and smother the flat chalupas.
The food that walks by you even smells better than the food in other Mexican restaurants.
I have had one experience where I waited an extensive amount of time to be seated, and they were packed so I was ok with it to a point, but for all the servers, and bus boys that walked by, not one person acknowledged us, or let us know some one would be with us shortly etc. After being seated our staff was very pleasant and prompt.
George's is in a little strip plaza and parking has been almost completely full at times.
There are multiple indoor seating areas, an outdoor seating area and seating at a bar.
I don't know how often that happens but there was a live musician on a Friday...
Read moreRestaurant was nice, clean, well maintained and the service was fine.
It was 3:30 but the food didn't seem fresh at all. The chili con carne tasted like It came from a can. The tamales also tastes frozen or canned.
The tostada with caso was a taco shell broken in half with cheese melted on it. Laughable really. Looked like a school lunch if the budget was completely removed.
My wife had the vegetarian enchiladas with "Ranchero Sauce". It was disgusting looking. The look on her face told me enough about the taste.
We decided to call it immediately. This food was not enjoyable. I asked for the check and told the waitress that the food was not good.
Surprisingly the entire amount was on the bill.
I didn't see a manager and didn't want to cause any trouble for the servers so I paid and left. At most I would have requested credit for the meals( obviously we only had a small amount). I even tipped a small amount bc it was not the server's fault.
I haven't been to George's since before the pandemic and was really disappointed in this meal. I hope it is not an example of the true food they serve.
I see the other reviews are great, so my experience may have just been a one...
Read moreWent to George's on Tuesday February 18th with the wife and kiddos. We live around the corner on Brookside. Our experience started with a poor waitress, who seemed in a rush the entire time, even though the restaurant was empty. Also, she did not discuss any specials, etc. I ordered a coke and it was flat. My daughter wanted cheese dip, so we ordered a small dip and never received it. She said that she did not here me order it. If she would had asked us if we wanted an appetizer and written any of our order details down, we probably would have had a much better experience. I had to ask about specials and once I did, she mentioned taco tuesday, I ordered 2 chicken and 1 beef. Received 2 beef and 1 chicken, so I had to ask for a replacement. My wife ordered chicken taco salad and the chicken was dry with no taste. We both agreed that all of the products served to us were not fresh. You get one shot in today's competitive environment and we will not be returning. We have dines at Carretas many times and their food quality and dining experience is...
