Geez....Just wow! Met two co-workers for lunch here since it was nearby and had always wanted to try them out. Had always heard George's was a great neighborhood place! I try and support my community restaurants but unfortunately this was a bit too bad for a good rating. I ordered my food first and the other two guys followed. (order at counter and seat yourself....service doesn't exist) The guy that ordered second received his food about 15 minutes later and the guy that ordered third received his 20 minutes later and I finally had to ask for my order again and it came nearly 35 minutes later. First guy had the fried catfish and immediately said it was not seasoned, a bit greasy, and that the hushpuppies tasted like there was cinnamon and nutmeg in them.....He only ate those two bites and said he couldn't... and would bring it home to his pet. ($24 order) Second guy got Hamburger and onion rings....said burger was mediocre but onion rings had no seasoning and oily. ($21 order) I finally got mine and was hoping my order would be different only to get chicken fingers that the batter fell off of and the nearly bare strips were tasteless and simply fried with no seasoning in the batter or pre-seasoning on strips. The onion rings were oily enough that eating two made my stomach flinch and once again no seasoning not even salted after removed from fryer. My co-worker made the mistake of looking up at the ceiling and the fan and a/c vents were covered in dust hovering over our table. This was the Jones Creek / Coursey location. (maybe other locations are better) Unfortunately I will not be going back nor recommending. Please accept my apologies for seeming so negative in my rating .... I paid my $21 as well as included a tip also despite there being no service. Basically there is a counter with condiments, cutlery, napkins, etc. and you get everything you need yourself. I am not angry at all as I finally got to try one of the neighborhood places I was curious about. With a little effort most of the food issues mentioned could be easily improved. If you're looking for maybe a drink and a place to chat a bit that is the only thing that is appealing for this place. Setting was very dimly lit and music in background sounded the quality of a jukebox somewhat. Would not recommend. (the listed overall 4+ star review is definitely not accurate - newer ratings show decline) All order costs listed reflect with tip included.....over...
Read moreI'm sorry to leave a bad review for a local restaurant..I know times are tough and prices high. I have bought a burger from them for years. I usually take it to go, or sit outside, the place is not very clean and is in such bad need of a remodel. The burger has always been a better choice than a Whopper, and SHOULD BE, at double the price. The quality is always spotty, sometimes over cooked, sometimes not as ordered. HOWEVER, I went in the other day, and the size of the patty was as thin as a whopper, and not nearly as wide. They don't seem to appreciate your business or take pride in their food quality or service. Restaurant Makeover needs to make an appearance here, but I have a feeling they wouldn't take any advice...the place looks like it did decades ago, just worn out and dirty. You can always tell how clean the kitchen is by the bathrooms, SO I had to ask myself, why am I eating here??? Burger King is a better, cleaner and cheaper alternative. Now the quest for a good, local burger in Baton Rouge! Guys, you really need to listen to these constructive criticisms! We want you to be...
Read moreI ordered a grilled chicken salad, it was really good. We were greeted when we entered 40 mins before closing. I ordered a sweet tea and I was given a cup of ice and wasn't told anything else. My food arrived and I was still waiting on my sweet tea to be poured in my cup. Halfway thru my meal I asked about it and the lady said oh it's over there you have to fix it yourself and by that time the ice had started to melt and since it was almost closing time the tea had already been removed. So I didnt get a drink with my meal and it wasn't removed from my ticket. I sampled fish from my partners plate it was fried good but with no taste of seasoning at all. The menu is written beautifully on a chalk board for all to see. Some items are pricey. I must say that they have the Best bread pudding I've had thus far. Nice atmosphere. I'd give them another try the lady who took our order and forgot my sweet tea was...
