The first thing you should know is the name "Bar and Bistreaux" does not correctly describe this establishment. The bar area is very small with one tv which most of the staff were watching taking up most of the space. Bar and Bistreaux made me think a casual atmosphere. Although it isn't white glove, it leans to the semi-formal dress. At least nice shirt and pants. I was given a pretty nasty look from the Greeter when she saw my shorts. I am an amputee and always wear shorts because of the difficulty of finding pants that work with my leg. The only reason I think she sat me was because it was Friday night and they were half empty and they couldn't be picky.
Service was horrible too. I was about to get up and walk out first thing when we were not greeted by our waiter for almost 10 minutes. Come to find out he only had one other table. Our order was taken and we did not see him till our appetizers came out. In between appetizers and entree both of our drinks ran out and it was at least five minutes until he came back in to the dining room for us to wave him down. This happened again after we were serves our entrees. He just disappeared this time for almost 20 minutes. When he reappeared on the othwr side of the room and again we had to wave him down for refills and our bill. He automatically brought us to-go cups, which he may have thought was nice, but it came across as get out. They didn't need the table. As we left, as I said earlier, most of the staff including the Chef/Owner were watching the TV. We almost had to brush arms with them to walk out the door, yet we were not even recognized or thanked for coming in and spending almost $100 on a meal for two.
The food was awesome, yet disappointing at the same time. I had the seafood topped portabello mushroom. The sauce and seafood were spectacular. The mushroom was rubbery and almost non-existent. It was also flatter than a pancake. Our other appetizer were the brussel sprouts covered in , I believe, was goat or feta cheese and honey. It was a good serving of sprouts that were charred nicely. The topping was maybe a tablespoon of honey and a heaping tablespoon of crumbled cheese. The couple of sprouts that actually had some honey and cheese on them were spectacular. The flavor was different, yet pleasing. The problem was there was only enough topping for two, maybe three sprouts and the last half that was used to wipe all the honey off the plate. If they cut the serving in half there still wouldn't have been enough topping to supply enough flavor for it all.
I can't complain about my entree which was the seafood and pasta. Again, the flavor of the cream sauce was right on spot. Nice size shrimp and enough crab meat to taste. It was topped with four fried oysters which were very flavorable. My roommate had no qualms about his entree either.
It was just a shame that for the price we paid to eat there that the service along with the attitude of the staff ruined the whole experience. Even though it is less than a five minute drive from our home we are not planning a return trip. There are several chain restaurants that would satisfy me as well that are cheaper and would satisfy me just as much, and the worst service I've ever gotten at one of them is twice as good as what we...
Read moreWe were excited to try a new restaurant. The menu looked great! That's as far as it went. I asked for a glass of wine and was told they were not serving wine, only beer. As some moments passed I see a glass of red on the table to my left and a glass of white go by and served to another table in front of me. I stopped what appeared to be a hostess or someone in charge to ask about the wine. She apologized and told our waiter. He served my glass of red wine with the wine running down the glass and all over the stem. Fast forward and the food is served. I ordered a side salad, field peas, and cornbread and my boyfriend ordered a sandwich. As the waiter served the cornbread he apologized and said he was embarrassed to serve it because it was burnt and he wouldn't charge us for it. It was charred! I asked him to please take it back that I couldn't eat it. It should have never left the kitchen. I took a taste of my field peas and they were undercooked and crunchy. They looked like black eyed peas and not field peas, which would have been okay had they been cooked. No complaints about the salad. My boyfriend's sandwich was okay but he wasn't impressed. The chef came out to check on our table. He apologized and said the glass of wine was on him. It was a kind gesture. Needless to say we won't be back unless people we know tell us how amazing the food was. Funny side note - I asked our waiter what the "Gulf" Fish of the Day was aa written in the menu and he...
Read moreSouthern Charm Bistreaux & Bar is a nice restaurant with a floating environment. Meaning the enviornment and decor is good for a romantic dinner, a business lunch, a weekend gathering with friends, etc.
The restaurant was very clean, bathrooms included.
The staff here is very attentive and knows the dishes extremely well for suggestions. The owner even visited several tables to check on the guest.
Price wise, the appetizers were a tid too much. But all other entrees and salads were priced well.
My friend ordered the mashed potatoes, bayou rolls, and bbq shrimp. She stated all were well less the sausage in the bayou rolls, citing it did not pair well with the other items, and the sauce for the shrimp was salty-which I agreed.
Me and my nephew ordered the magnolia mushroom, beef and bib salad and the chicken sandwich. The sauce used for the magnolia mushroom was phenomal! Definitely a good pasta sauce, but the there were no shrimp in the dish as the menu cited. The beef and bib salad was great, except the entire salad was whole lettuce leaves. Spending several minutes slicing your lettuce before eating each bite is time consuming. The chicken sandwich was EXCELLENT. Seasoned perfectly and that aioli sauce was magnificient.
Overall, I would visit again and try some other items. Southern Charm Bistreaux & Bar is a restaurant I would recommend...
