I’ve been coming to this place my whole life, and I just wanted to leave a truly heartfelt review. The food has always been amazing, but I want to share something personal.
Some time ago, my dad became very sick due to his own health issues — not from the food here. During that time, he wouldn’t eat anything for weeks. One day, I brought home a plate of food from this restaurant, and as soon as he smelled it, he said, “That smells really good.” I told him I had plenty and offered him some. He finally decided to try it, and after the first bite, he said, “That’s the best Chinese food I’ve ever had.”
From that day on, my dad started eating again—this food gave him his appetite back. For the remaining weeks of his life, he ate from here almost every day. Because of this restaurant, he gained some strength back, and I truly believe that him eating again gave him more time with me.
Thank you for providing not just great food, but comfort and joy during a difficult time...
Read moreStar wok is my favorite Chinese takeout place! Not only is it very inexpensive but the food is always on point. I have never had a bad experience. It is ready in about 5 minutes and I have picked up from there probably about 30 times and I have never had them mistake my order or forget anything including the fortune cookies. I have gotten the beef lo mein, shrimp with lobster sauce, steamed dumplings, generals chicken, pepper steak, sweet and sour pork and chicken, egg drop soup and pork egg rolls. All DELICIOUS. It’s also so much food for each order. I can never finish the small beef lo mein I can have it over two to three days. All of the food is always consistent and good and if you order enough food they will give you a free soft drink liter. SERIOUSLY it is like the diamond in rough on West esplanade. Sometimes they will even give me three fortune cookies and if you order online a free almond cookie. 😊 I seriously dream about going back even if I have it a few...
Read moreUpon walking in, we were greeted immediately and assisted with our order. The service was friendly and efficient, which set a positive tone. It’s a typical Chinese takeout spot offering all the familiar dishes, and the food smelled amazing. We were genuinely excited to eat.
Unfortunately, that excitement faded once we began our meal. The rice was severely undercooked and completely flavorless. I now understand why they charge extra for their homemade sauces. Our dishes were very lightly tossed, leaving the chicken nearly dry and lacking in flavor. The General Tso’s chicken was also a letdown; instead of the usual balance of sweetness, tang, and heat from Szechuan peppers, it was simply doused with cayenne for spice. The shrimp toast, while crispy, was overcooked to the point of being dry and lacking...
