I came in on a Friday for a consultation for highlights, I was scheduled with one very friendly hairdresser who I described my desired look to and felt comfortable working with and ready to book me for a highlight session, unfortunately due to scheduling availability, I was assigned to a different stylist. This other stylist quoted me at $450 to $550 for highlights, although when I checked their website this morning, it states 120 for partial, 140 for full, and balayage starting at $155. She said this price included end trimming "if necessary" but that it was mostly due to "the amount of bowls of dye" she would need to use for my hair length, that's just at back bra strap length. The photo I presented did not seem to have an extreme amount of highlights but since I'm not familiar with the process I agreed. She had an open schedule and booked me for a 6 hr appt the following day. I was told there is a 24hr cancelation window, but the stylist did not mention what happens to customers who do not have the 24hr courtesy. I felt a little uneasy leaving the salon but was excited for the new look. I woke up with a horrific migraine the following morning, disoriented, light sensitive, so terrible, my husband called to have my appt rescheduled just give my medication enough time to kick in. They were only able to push my appt back 1 hour. The hour past, I was still unable to stand without feeling nauseous, I could not imagine sitting in a bright salon for 6 hours inhaling dyes without vomiting. My husband yet again called to push the time back but was not accommodated and not offered a different day to reschedule, I was however charged the no show fee for $150, more than the total cost of the full highlights. After reviewing their website for pricing, I feel this stylist was scamming me on the quote and charged me an unreasonable cancelation fee since this quote included optional services that we were going to decide on the day of. I decided to go to The Doll House about a year ago, after feeling increasingly "meh" about my previous stylist, who often tried to pressure me into keeping my hair longer and having what I viewed as "matronly" styles. I'm 27 and into an edgier look, so I wanted to find a stylist who was affordable and also willing to do some crazier things to my hair. Lauren has been doing my hair since then, and she's amazing. I decided I wanted an undercut (sides and back shaved with the top longer) and even though she had some trepidation about shaving my head, she left the decision firmly in my hands. I decided I was ready to go for it, and Lauren did exactly what I wanted. I love that she is willing to try some weird styles, and doesn't try to get me to do my hair like hers (the way my previously stylist did). Her hair coloring is also fantastic and always comes out even better than I expect. I've been completely satisfied with my experience at the Doll House, and I recommend it to people whenever possible. Also, when you drive up for the first time, the 4 or 5 parking spots in front might be taken---just drive around the right side of the building and there's an entire lot to park in which is rarely full. I don't get my haircut often. Mostly because of the time, money, and the fact that I'm either working or at school 24/7. When I do it's normally a pick me up and something to give my confidence when I'm having a rough week. My hair stylist was extremely rude for the entire time I was there. She only talked down to me about my hair. She made me feel more insecure than when I walked in there. My hair is dark brown and pretty wavy. My family dyes it at home (to save money) and for more than half the time she told me that I didn't know how to take care of my hair and "that's why it looks so nasty" at one point she even looked at another stylist, made a face, sighed, and continued to cut my hair. Overall I felt extremely uncomfortable and disappointed. I addressed this with the review system online but never heard much back.
