This place is great, hands down would travel to come here. Tried multiple options a camping traveler drip coffee, Dalgona, a pour over, and thyme tea. Then, there's was the chocolate coffee.
Let's start off with the chocolate coffee, thinks of a coffee bean coated in chocolate but way better. They incorporate the coffee bean into the chocolate and it melts in mouth. I had two peices and that equates to 1 cup of coffee. My only worry is I would eat to many in one time.
Next, I got to try the drip coffee which is marketed as a camper or traveler coffee because it come in a perfect packaging that hangs on to any size cup and you pour over your hot water. The slower you pour the stronger the flavor. Which is rich, and so very smooth. I didn't need any creamer or sugar to alter the flavor. Which is a first for me.
Now for those who looking for a sweet treat, the perfect thing for you will be Dalgona. It's creamy, chocolaty, sweet with the perfect amount of coffee flavor. It's not over powering and mine was iced. Perfect for this summer heat.
The pour over was the strongest thing I tasted but it still wasn't too bitter. Acidic and smooth, with a touch of fringed rue. Which added a herbal sweetness. Reminded me of licorice or tarragon.
The final step was some Thyme Tea since my mother isn't a fan of coffee. It was very refreshing. A nice herbal tea that I would try drinking before bed.
Overall recommendation 10 out of 10 would advise to go soon for the beverages. I don't think I've ever met a coffee that didn't need cream and sugar. The owner was hilarious and personable making the experience even greater. The interior was chic and...
Read moreYesterday I decided I was going to try a new local coffee shop and Abol is the place I chose (their menu mentioned baklava, and i couldnt resist)
This place is amazing. I actually forgot to take pictures because I was too distracted talking to the owner about the amazing atmosphere and Ethiopian language and his experiences as an immigrant in the US and his very fancy coffee machine that he was very proud of ("the Telsla of coffee makers", he called it! He showed me how it works, and it is - in fact - the Tesla of coffee machines).
So not only was the service and atmosphere absolutely inviting, the quality of human interaction I experienced was remarkable. I spent a full hour just talking and asking questions and getting to know the people working that day.
Also - they have a printer available for anyone to use (pay like $.15/page or something) - all you have to do is email them and tell them "hey im having this printed and I'm going to come get it in half an hour" - which is such a thoughtful service to offer, especially for those of us who dont have a home printer but still need to be able to print resumes and school assignments or various forms required for daily adult life.
So - if you're just looking for a great cup of coffee or a tasty treat, I would highly recommend this place. My medium coffee and baklava (a generous serving) came out to $11 - very reasonably priced.
If you are looking to connect with new people and experience a sense of community and perhaps indulge in a bit of cultural exchange, in addition to enjoying a delicious coffee, I can assure you that you wont be disappointed...
Read moreI finished my Jebena Coffee at 2pm at the latest and I was up until 4am without a whiff of fatigue.
I went grocery shopping right after, took 3 trips up 2 floors, was active all day, but lying in bed my heart wasn’t racing, I wasn’t irritable, I wasn’t even loopy due to being up at 4am, I felt normal, joyful even, and entirely amused at how i have so much tranquil energy I could probably take the English portion of the ACT at 4am years out of high school then run a lap on a track and end with a cartwheel. I cannot do cartwheels but I knew that night I could’ve. That coffee didn’t just give me wings, it gave me claws, a beak, and it opened a library of interpretive mating dances reserved only for boy birds that underwent years of reproductive evolution.
And it was delicious. Rich, full, bold, pure. It was fantastic black, with sugar, with creamer, with creamer and sugar… Abol is Ethiopian coffee and after traveling to Guatemala and Colombia and drinking their special brew, Abol reminded me of the one true source. The true coffee daddy.
I may be verbose but I don’t exercise it carelessly, that Jebena coffee deserved it. And while I cannot guarantee that exact experience for everyone due to infinite variations of chemical, physical, environmental, biological, and literary factors, I cannot keep this adventure to myself. Even if you fall asleep at 9pm, you would at least have tasted a fantastic...
