My love of Mexican food has taken me to some very cool places, and I'm always looking for the "next best".....well, at least NEW and LOCAL. Chain Mexican restaurants are nice because they're usually pretty consistent and you usually get what you expect. That's why I get excited when a new local Mexican eatery opens.
A few weeks ago I saw an article about Mexa Steak Tacos and was intrigued and wanted to rush out, but I know how it is when restaurants open in this town....so I waited. Fast forward to last Saturday when my wife said "how does Mexican sound?" and my answer was "Well...there's this place I read an article about a few weeks ago".
As it turns out, it was a great choice. Although it was some kind of festival weekend (which made parking a bit of a chore), the restaurant wasn't exceptionally busy and we were next in line as we reviewed the menu to decide what we wanted to eat. The ordering location is a little, with the queueing line being RIGHT inside the front door, but it that's more of an observation than it is a complaint.
The dining room has a lot of lights hanging from the ceiling. By a lot I mean a WHOLE lot, but they're not blindingly bright. The chairs are completely mis-matched, which gives the dining room a fun, casual feel.
The menu isn't large, but it doesn't have to be when you have a specialty and you're a local eatery. There are variations on steak tacos and their own version of a quesadilla. The tortillas are cooked when you order your meal, not sitting on a warmer when you walk in, and not pressed on a hot press. COOKED on the grill when you order them!
Our food delivery didn't take very long (they give you a number on a metal table stand and bring the food to you when it's ready) and the food was served hot. I had the Street Taco and the Norteño, my wife had the Lorena's Taco Pirata (a twist on the quesadilla). They were A M A Z I N G, and the first half dozen or so bites were accompanied by "mmmmmm"...and "WOW!". We also ordered chips and salsa (which is actually kind of a jalapeño cream salsa). The chips are made their, and the salsa is outstanding.
Very reasonably priced at roughly $3.00 to $4.50 a taco, it's easy to dine inexpensiveness, and a great way to try something new.
If you're wondering if we'll be going back often, the answer is a...
Read moreOkay, first off, the parking is terrible! It just is.. I worried my truck would be towed, the whole time I was eating; because there is not enough spaces. That being said, the tacos were AMAZING!!! When I arrived, i thought to myself, here we go again, Cisco. Another new wave taco place. One that makes weird fusion tacos. Well, i was wrong!!! I ordered 2 street tacos, and 1 crunchy cheese taco. Oh my goodness!!! I gotta tell ya, i was so impressed! Homemade tortillas, the meat just melted in my mouth. No gristle, no fat. Just plenty of goodness. The crunchy cheese taco was my absolute favorite. Melted crunchy cheese is so good! Put it in the middle of a taco, and, BOOM! The lack of a five star rating comes from, the price, and lack of lime, on the side of my tacos. 3 tacos and a drink cost more than $15 ALL IN ALL, IF YOU LOVE TACOS LIKE I DO, CHECK THIS...
Read moreFound a hair in one of the tacos. I didn't complain, put it aside and proceeded to take a bite of the steak tostada. The meat that they use has definitely gone down in quality, I was very grossed out to find another hair in my tostada. I threw away the rest of my food. It is very disappointing, this restaurant used to be so delicious and fresh. The dining room table set up has also changed, it no longer feels modern. They stopped serving margaritas or any alcohol whatsoever. The prices are very high for the quality, and in the past the prices were not an issue because the food was so delicious. Did they really think that their regular customers wouldn't notice the difference? I feel truly sad for...
