Nothing special. Poor service. Long wait times. Went to checks with my husband this afternoon for the first time in a long time, I’ve lived in germantown most of my life & honestly I remember checks better, I had the buffalo chicken sandwich which was mediocre & my husband ate the club sandwich, (ate is really not the word because he did not) I will get back to that later in the post. personally I don’t like the way it’s set up, it’s very not personable, I enjoy the interaction with a server & being checked on. the restaurant was fairly busy so waiting in line in a crowded space with Covid really gave me anxiety, None of the staff had on a mask social distancing was non existent, But that’s besides the point in trying to make. We were in line at least 10 minutes but only 2 orders were ahead of us, I get the whole treat everyone like family but keep it moving there are customers waiting. Back to the food, the house chips are the best thing. my chicken was soggy (overtime is understandable because of the buffalo sauce but fresh is not acceptable) also could have been better if the bun was toasted to hold the sauce. I couldn’t even eat my fries (old and cold) the bacon on my husbands club was so hard he couldn’t eat it.. not to mention the bartender (who placed our order) mixed up my name with another order then was very rude to the food runner, yelled at her from the other side of the restaurant. will probably not return. I now remember why I couldn’t remember what I got at checks last...
Read moreMy wife and I were tired today and didn't feel like cooking, so we thought we'd get some food delivered with Grubhub. We decided on this place because we'd been there a while ago (pre-Covid) and the food was pretty decent. One of our items was cancelled before the delivery driver ever got there. No big deal, we'd make due.
The order showed up on time from the Grubhub driver. I took the bag into the house and we opened it to discover multiple items missing. Also my wife ordered a steak sandwich medium rare and it was a piddly, burnt piece of shoe leather. The food we actually recieved was bland and not worth the money. How does a place mess up bar food?
We called the restaurant and they basically said, "come on down and we'll give you what you're missing." Dude, I had it delivered because I didn't want to leave the house.
Grubhub dude was friendly and is refunding the money on the stuff that was missing, including the tip for the driver (since they're supposed to check that stuff before they leave the restaurant.)
I keep trying to support local business during a pandemic, but every single time I've gotten food from a local restaurant, the quality has been absolutely terrible. Guess I'm sticking to cooking myself and/or just getting fast food (since they actually haven't messed up an...
Read moreA friendly neighborhood bar/restaurant, you order seat yourself, order at the bar, pick up your drinks, and go back to your seat to wait for your name to be called. Fried catfish (open face sandwich) was the special and it was SPECIAL! The fish was moist, the breading was crispy with a very distinctive, wonderful crunch. I enjoyed every bite of this fried catfish. I started eating the fish with some tartar sauce (it was good), but abandoned the tartar sauce so I could just enjoy the fish after the second bite. I also had fried apples (below average) and onion rings (very good). My wife had the chicken sandwich which she said was very good. But Check’s gets 5 stars because the catfish was the best fish I have had in Louisville, and the best catfish I’ve ever had. Dinner for two with sodas for under $25 makes Checks a great value - we were both stuffed. Street parking was readily available. There are TVs available if you want to catch a game and enjoy some drinks with or without dinner.
The catfish was a special! I am going back to try some of their other offerings. And I am going to try to find out when they have catfish so I can go back every time if...
