We paid our recent First Visit to this Cracker Barrel and had a mostly great time. We decided to go on Sunday morning so we kinda knew we were in for chaos, but we braced for it.
Cracker Barrel follows the same concept as Las Vegas hotels. In order to get to the good part (the food, or in Vegas's case, the hotel/shops/etc) you have go through the money making part (the Old Country Store or, in Vegas's case, the casino). It makes me wonder what came first, the store or the restaurant. No matter, it's all a part of the Cracker Barrel experience.
Once we (forcibly) made our way through people meandering through the store to get to the hostess stand we were able to get on the list. A 15 minute wait isn't bad, so we did a little shopping. The Cracker Barrel merchandisers are next-level in their skills because there is, quite literally, more stuff in this store than there is space in this store. From Holiday merchandise to clothing to toys to music (vinyl, even!) to stuffed animals, they pack A LOT of stuff in this retail space. My favorite, though, is the old-time candy and soft drink area. Here they boast of a number of candies that I haven't seen since childhood (or, at least, since my last visit to a Cracker Barrel). Right next to that is the beauty that is glass-bottle soft drinks. In this day of plastic pop bottles and 12-oz cans, NOTHING compares to a soft drink in a glass bottle. Spotting Vernor's in a glass bottle was a HUGE score. I'm from Michigan and, even though we haven't live in MI since 2011, still seek out Vernor's (although it's in the dreaded 12-oz can) and have it every week.
After about 10 minutes of shopping we were called for a table...and then it felt like we were forgotten. The staff all around us was constantly in motion, but no one paid us any mind until close to 15 minutes after we were seated. I had just told my wife that I wasn't planning on waiting much longer when our server showed up. Her name was Tammy and you could tell she was running around like crazy. We had had plenty of time to look at the menu so we placed our drink orders and our meal orders at the same time. What I wanted when I walked in was lunch (we were given breakfast menus), but something on the menu caught my eye.
Pancake Tacos.
Yes, Pancake Tacos.
Ok, so much for ordering off the lunch menu. Fried eggs, bacon, and cheese inside a Cracker Barrel pancake? #NotAHardSell #SigneMeUp #WhereHasThisBeenAllMyLife
After placing our orders she brought out those appetite-killing biscuits. You know, the ones you know should only eat one of, but you eat two because you're hungry and then you can't finish your meal because you ate that second biscuit? Those. And they are SO freakin' good.
When our food arrived it was hot and perfect. Wifey had the hashbrown casserole and I had the Pancake Tacos (which are so good they should always be capitalized). Deliciousness Ensued. however...HOWEVER...those biscuits did me in. Alas, I could only eat one of my Pancake Tacos. It's rare, but I had to get a to-go box. Wifey did as well. (side note: they both reheat well for brekkie the next day).
It's a safe bet that each and every staff member at this (and probably all other) locations gets their step goal every day. The entire team was constantly hustling and making sure table were cleaned, items were stocked, refills were refilled, and customers had a great experience.
On the way out we purchased several bottles of Vernor's (in the glass bottle, of course) and a box of their biscuit mix. I really should make a visit to Cracker Barrel more regularly, but for now I'm all set. Besides, it's been 4 days and I'm still full from that second...
Read moreOn Saturday, 11/12/22, my family and I visited the Cracker Barrel in Fern Creek, Louisville, KY, 10150 Brookridge Village Blvd.
We walked in about 2 pm, and waited at the hostess stand almost 10 minutes before being greeted. The hostess didn’t even talk to us and walked us to our seat in silence. Multiple tables were littered with dirty dishes and there was food all over the floor underneath the table, but no one offered to sweep it up. We sat for over 15 minutes before we were greeted and waited another 10 to get our drinks. We were there for over an hour and a half and there was no wait.
When my son got his pancakes, one was totally messed up and inedible. The other two were misshapen and barely cooked on one side. When I mentioned that the pancakes looked odd, the waitress shrugged and said, “we just have different cooks”.
My boyfriend’s scrambled eggs were not fully cooked and runny yolk floated throughout. My over medium eggs were barely cooked and extremely runny.
The bacon… usually my favorite part of my meal at Cracker Barrel, was so undercooked and floppy and made me sick looking at it.
Being a previous server myself, I assumed they were just understaffed and it was just an off day and we ate what we could without complaining.
However, when we got home, I had the worst stomach issues I have had in years. I was in the bathroom for hours with stomach cramps and pain and weakness. I hadn’t eaten anything else that day besides the Cracker Barrel.
Possibly someone from corporate needs to check on this location and make sure they are cooking to standard and not struggling to stay in business. We will not be returning to this location again in the future, even if it is convenient to our home address. This experience soured our opinion of the restaurant and we will not choose Cracker Barrel ever again as a...
Read moreThe 5 Stars for Service is for the Employee that helped me find an item in their Store area. This was a very disappointing Breakfast today. The scrambled eggs were runny when we asked for them to please be cooked well-done, the hash browns were also undercooked, runny and greasy, they had no crispiness to them. We Waited well over 20 minutes to even get our food. I would have gladly waited longer for the food to actually be cooked. And, the Bacon...how in the world can BACON, NOT taste good? Cracker Barrel used to have the BEST Bacon around, but it's gone. The Bacon here is now NASTY. All of the Cracker Barrels in TN still have good Breakfast Food. Seems like all of the Cracker Barrels in KY have ALL gone down hill. I've tried several Louisville locations and the food is just nasty and the prices have been RAISED way up. Can't even keep something as American as Cracker Barrel the same anymore. They had to go woke and put alcohol on their menu. There are PLENTY of bars all over the place. Cracker Barrel does not need to serve Alcohol, especially in the Morning. They want new customers and are catering to the Millennials. Companies can't leave anything alone anymore. Go ahead and cater to the Millennials and go out of business because very few of them have any money to spend. Cracker Barrel won't even give you any Jelly for your Biscuits or even ask you if you want it. You have to BEG for Jelly. Server only checked on us ONE time. We went early and there wasn't even very many people there. The were NOT busy enough for the Server to only check on us ONE time. Will not return. No, I didn't ask to speak to anyone because what good would it have done? Very disappointed. To the Corporate Office of Cracker Barrel: What happened and don't blame it on C-19. You...
