My wife and I were excited to try Hokkaido for the first time today. However, our experience wasnt very impressive.
In total we ordered: 1 - Takoyaki Octopus - GOOD 1 - Spicy Beef Ramen - DECENT 1 - Chicken Rich Ramen - BLAND 0 - Strawberry Mochi Ice cream - N/A
The staff was very nice, friendly, and attentive. The place has a decent vibe going aesthetically. Nice art and decor.
The chairs though! They might have taken the cake for the most uncomfortable seats I've ever sat in at a restaurant. I was genuinely trying to get comfortable throughout the entire dining experience. Personally I think the pads are to thin and the lumbar support to high.
Our appetizer (Takoyaki) came out after our meal. Even though we got it after our food, it was still pretty good.
One complaint I have about the food we had, was all the meat looked and tasted as though they cooked everything via boiling it. The meats were bland and lacked any real depth of flavor.
My wife wasn't a big fan of her Chicken Rich Ramen she said it lacked any real flavor and was just kinda, "meh".
The Spicy Beef was decent. Nice spice level, decent presentation, appropriate portion sizes. I would have like to seen and had a better looking and tasting peice of beef rib with the dish. Tasted like boiled ribs...
Lastly we were looking forward to some Strawberry Mochi Icecream, but they were out... this kind of put the final nail in the coffin for the night.
All in all we weren't super impressed, but would be willing to try it again. Maybe with friends for some quick...
Read moreHokkaido Ramen and Sushi offers a mixed dining experience that largely depends on your taste preferences. If you’re a fan of ramen, you might enjoy the food, but it does require a specific palate that not everyone will appreciate. Personally, I found the sushi to be quite good, and the curry chicken was excellent—it was definitely the standout dish of the meal.
This was my first time trying the restaurant, and since ramen isn’t something I typically eat, I wasn’t sure what to expect. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the overall quality of the food. The restaurant itself has a decent atmosphere, with a clean and modern feel. Everything inside looks relatively new, which adds to a comfortable dining experience.
Unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. Despite the restaurant not being busy, our waiter was inattentive, leaving our drinks empty and failing to check on us throughout the meal. This lack of attentiveness really took away from the experience. If this is how the service is when the restaurant is slow, I can only imagine how bad it would be on a busy night.
Overall, while the food was decent and the sushi and curry chicken were enjoyable, the poor service is enough to make me hesitant about a return visit. If they improve their customer service, this place could be a much better...
Read moreHokkaido Ramen & Sushi in the Iroquois neighborhood of Louisville has lots to offer. I've had many different ramen offerings on the menu and they were all very good. The spicy beef ramen will "light you up", hot and delicious. The poke bowls (my favorite), are top notch. They also offer a nice selection of "hoppy" Asian brews that will make you happy in their relaxing atmosphere.

The staff is helpful, courteous and friendly. Hokkaido Ramen & Sushi is worth the initial visit and many returns. Kick it up a notch and try Hokkaido! They don't disappoint.
Today (12/3/2024) I had the Tantanmen Ramen bowl with tender diced pork in chicken broth with soft boiled eggs, bok choy and ramen noodles. They put their homemade chili paste on the rim of the bowl so you can add just the right amount, delicious! A nicely balanced ramen bowl that goes well with a Sapporo premium lager. This was perfect for a cold afternoon.
My server always smiled and was helpful...
