Went here all the time at their old location. Here are some pics to prove. The food is good, although VERY overpriced. Iāll never understand how restaurants get away with charging SIX DOLLARS for frozen fries and tater tots, when you can literally buy a bag for less than that at the grocer. I know itās not about price when it comes to eating out but, I could make 2/3 impossible burgers at home for the same price and quality as one of theirs. I am happy to pay more for house made seitan or tofu, but $16 for an IMPOSSIBLE burger? Really? And not even a teeny tiny side of fries included??? Plus, then you have to tip even for pickup orders nowadays, itās basically $25 for a frozen burger and frozen fries. I used to love vegan places like this when I was younger but, I have realized that overcharging vegans for impossible burgers and frozen fries is NOT ethical, lol Iām happy to pay extra knowing Iām helping someoneās ādreamā or whatever but, now I will say the uncomfortable reason why I rate 1 star, and will most likely never return. This restaurant had a gofundme set for $20,000 for their old location, which okay, most people had gofundmes during pandemic, no issues there. However, I saw on the owners social media them discussing purchasing designer items ($2k+ heels) for their partner, and it was just very disheartening to say the least. I understand everyone deserves nice things, but donāt ask people in need, during a pandemic to keep your restaurant alive, if you can afford to do so yourself. I wonāt be returning because of that reason. I am NOT trying to start drama, this is just the reason why I, personally will not be returning. There are so many great family owned vegan restaurants here (heart and soy and half peach are my personal favorite). I just feel better knowing my money and support is going to people who actually need it. Itās not just the taste for me, I care very much about local businesses. However, the owners gotta be good people to deserve my care and support. I genuinely hope the owners refunded everyone who donated to the gofundme! I also hope you know I have no ill will, and wish you guys the best in your new venture! Regardless, you have lost a loyal...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWas in Louisville for a weekend and was really pumped to try this vegan restaurant. Went early on a Saturday morning and had, quite frankly, terrible service. The person who opened the door for us (because they were still locked up and mopping well after the stated opening time) acted as if we were a burden for showing up for brunch and was really curt the entire time making us feel as if we did something wrong. We ordered and paid, and AFTER the fact they alerted that they didnāt have waffles (half of their brunch menu?!?!) and that weād have to select something else. We did end up selecting something new, but we were not refunded the difference from our original order so we ended up getting charged $16 for a $7 egg & cheese sandwich and was made to feel like we were the problem.
Food was good but we were in and out in ~30 mins because we certainly didnāt feel like it was a welcoming place to just sit and have a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreKudos to Shahar Cafe for being one of the few vegan restaurants in Louisville and still having great food. The fries and tater tots are phenomenal! One of my go tos every time I hesd in there. They have a hipster decor that caters to your inner child with pictures of super heroes mixed with classic artwork and old school records on the wall. I really like the veggie burgers even though they are quite pricey. You have to make some comprises considering their location. They have some interestingly tasty homemade all natural juices and desserts for tmyou tonsample as well. The baklava was a bit too nutty for me but still good for the price. I'm always impressed with the friendly staff and their ability to chef up a good meal. There is not a lot of space but enough room for a couple of friends to get a quick bite or for someone looking to kill time while they work on a project. Its definitely worth your time to...
