Who knew Louisville had such a fantastic food scene?? I am basing this off the three restaurants we ate at during our time here, Foko being the absolute top of the list. We were unsure of what we wanted (mostly because we wanted half the menu), but the sweet girl at the register gave us some suggestions. We ended up getting the chicken empanadas, the chilakiles, and the avocado toast with a fried egg on top. The empanadas were so yum. The outside was flaky and crunchy; the inside was creamy and flavorful, and the dipping sauce…THE DIPPING SAUCE..some sort of chipotle laced concoction that must have come from Heaven’s Cookbook. We may have eaten our way thru three servings of the sauce and taken some home with us as well. The avocado toast was on a thick piece of sourdough from La Pana bakery, also a must visit if you are in the area. The over medium fried egg was perfectly cooked, perfectly complimenting the fresh avocado and pickled jalapeños. And of course we drizzled THE SAUCE on it. My chilakiles were sooooo good, crunchy and savory and everything tasted SO fresh. On top of all that, the ambiance was very cute and welcoming, and the staff was precious. We ended up having conversations with a few different staff members, which is my favorite thing to do, and everyone was super nice. It seemed like they were a very cohesive team. My only complaint is that we live in Alabama and won’t be able to go back next weekend. But mark my words, Foko, we WILL see you again! Also, yes, I did leave the exact same review on Yelp, because EVERYONE needs to know how good...
Read moreIf you want an incredibly delightful breakfast experience, here's a hot tip: Wander down to Logan Street Market around 9am on a weekday (Tues-Fri). Stop at the La Pana window and grab a cortado and a yummy pastry. Then go inside and place an order at Foko. Everything is delicious and most can be made vegetarian or vegan. The enfrijoladas are worth writing songs about. Anyway, place your order and take your cortado for a walk around a blissfully quiet public market that is just waking up for the day. Right when you get to the bottom of your cup and you're thinking there's absolutely no way you're going to be able to resist tearing into that pastry you just bought, your buzzer will go off indicating your order is ready. Pick up your order from the incredibly sincere and friendly staff, tip excessively, and tear into your food while it's still hot. Take a few moments to reflect on the incredible meal you just ate and offer thanks to the people that make it happen. If you have room left, finish your breakfast off with your pastry. If not, take the pastry home, tell yourself you'll eat it at lunch or for breakfast the next day, and then give up 10 mins after you walk in the door and scarf it down in a sort of blissful fugue state where the only thing that exists in the world is you and that flaky buttery sugary roll of deliciousness. That's exactly how I spent my morning today. Give it a try and let me know...
Read moreI decided to go to FOKO in person. I heard about it thru Uber Eats, where I experienced it for the first time months ago and again last week. FOKO IS SO GOOD!!!!
FOKO is located inside the Logan Street Marketplace and parking can be so-so with spaces. Be prepared to parallel park and walk a short distance, yes its wheelchair accessible, and there are sidewalks that are wheelchair capable before you enter the building. I parked less than a block away on a Sunday afternoon around 1pm. FOKO is located on the first floor. It was my first time in the Logan Street Marketplace, and it was a very chill place. I felt safe, there.
The customer service was great at FOKO.
ALL of my food was in the bag and the food tasted wonderful. One small issue was the week before when I ordered the waffles with the fried chicken side; the chicken was in one piece. Today when I ordered the same thing the chicken was cut up - which I appreciated- but didn't understand what the difference had been to cut it vs keeping the piece whole. It was still delicious!
Also, I didn't include a picture, but last week I had the coffee called the Abuelita- very good!!!
If you want to try something new, go to FOKO, you will be happy...
