Over the past decade my wife and I have visited The Irish Rover countless times when we visit Louisville. We've always had a pretty good experience...until today.
On Sat. Nov. 6th we dined at the Rover, and my wife ordered the ploughman's plate. This dish comes with Coleman's mustard, but when her order arrived, there was no mustard included. I asked the young lady (not our original waitress) who brought our food for mustard, and she said she would bring some back to the table. After waiting several minutes and presuming she had forgotten about us (she had), I went up to the bar and politely asked for some Coleman's mustard. The woman at the bar was, I presume, the owner. She directed our original waitress to go get some mustard, which she did. When she handed me the plastic cup of mustard, I was surprised at how little mustard was there. It was perhaps a half teaspoon at best. I brought this tiny dollop of mustard back to our table, and my wife and I attempted to enjoy our meal, replete with the equivalent of an eye-dropper full of mustard for her bread. We were both a bit shocked at how stingy this seemed, as they used to bring an entire jar of mustard to the table when we ordered the ploughman's plate.
Now here's the kicker -- when we got our bill, we had actually been charged 50 cents for that paltry plastic cup of mustard. No mention of an upcharge whatsoever -- they just added it to our bill.
The issue here isn't the 50 cents -- it is the principle of the matter. We ordered a dish THAT COMES WITH MUSTARD, but didn't get it. When I asked for it, we were charged and not even told about it. Customers should be told if they are being charged for something. They didn't even ask if she had received mustard with her dish.
When I went to complain about the upcharge, there was no one available. Our waitress had told us earlier that they were understaffed, and that was evident. Both of the young ladies were engaged with other customers, and the owner was nowhere to be found. We left, DISAPPOINTED.
We were not angry, just very disappointed. We really love the Rover, but this is not how you treat...
Read moreIf a lower review could be made I would do so . Owner Siobahn, was extremely rude and Unpleasant to us immediately upon arriving . We had reservations , which was made two days prior , and we knew it would be outside seating , which was not an issue at all. We had company from Ohio coming in , had 1 pm reservations . They ran into a accident on I-71, and they were delayed by 30-60 minutes approx.. I called to let the Irish rover know , out of courtesy, and the gentleman asked when we thought we’d be there . I told him I felt it would be 30-60 minutes , he said no problem . When we arrived , I told the waitress we had reservations and she said just a moment . This was when the poor and disgraceful experience started . Siobhan, the owner, immediately told us we had to have masks on IN THE PARKING LOT, before we even got to the outside seating tent ! She was half way under the tent , yelling at us about masks and that we were late , with patrons seated all around her . I kindly explained the delay and that I called to inform them , out of town guests, etc... She didn’t care. We also, of course, got lectured about no masks some more , in the parking lot . I explained we were in the parking AND OUTSIDE. That didn’t seem to register to Siobhan , and continued to let us know that even if we would be seated , that everytime the server approached we’d have to put the masks up each time .She’s very unprofessional , and not a nice person . I kindly told her that we would go ahead and find another place for lunch, that the reservations could be cancelled , Thank you.. Siobhan then confirmed that she would have just put us on the waiting list regardless .. I’ve never seen such hate , bigotry , and general snootiness ever. For businesses to complain about how badly they are suffering , this particular business clearly doesn’t need or want the business bad enough . Will NEVER be back and will share my experience with...
Read moreAs a first-time customer I must say that my opinion will not be completely formulated until I am able to visit again. I went to the Irish Rover on a friend group date during Forecastle which made parking complete entropy though I was able to snag a choice parking spot after about 20 minutes of driving around. The atmosphere at the establishment is charming for lack of better word and the seating we got was tucked away in a little corner of a salmon colored dining room and part of the wall was missing and had been badly patched though I did not let that distract me from my evening out. Our server was decent, though he did seem a little stressed and he was sweating bullets because it was absolutely Hellfire inside of the little restaurant and they were busy to say the least. I ordered the blue cheesecake as an appetizer and I was very disappointed it does not have the consistency that you would expect, it's much more like a sad cornbread poorly costumed as cheesecake and the portioning was not equal to the price. For dinner I got the salmon salad which was delicious and I really enjoyed the dressing that came with it. Four members of my group ordered the Scottish eggs which they all seem to enjoy immensely. Until next time I will leave my rating at a measly...
