Arooga's — Restaurant in Lower Paxton Township

First of all I want to say that 1 star is EXTREMELY generous. I would give it zero stars if that were an option. This place was horrible from start to finish. Once seated we waited over 15 minutes and not one person had acknowledged our existence. I finally called over a server to see if someone was coming and that is when he got our waitress Dominique. She came over and blamed her other two "annoying" tables on why she hadn't gotten to us. First of all that was highly unprofessional and second of all it takes two seconds to walk over to a table and say I'll be right with you. When she took our order she wrote NOTHING down. I knew that my order would come out wrong at that point. I ordered a cheeseburger rare with no onions and my husband ordered a grilled chicken sandwich. We ordered our drinks, a kid's meal for our child under 12 and the other three people in our party ordered burgers and tacos. One perk was that on Mondays kids eat free, so we were happy about that. It took 15 minutes for our drinks to come out and our food took OVER AN HOUR. I asked her several times when the food was coming and she kept saying "It will be right out." I was clearly irritated by the long wait for burgers and tacos, yet Dominique was unapologetic and blamed the kitchen. I understand that the waitstaff has no control over the kitchen, however, she did not come over once to apologize and was missing in action more most of the night. Had she even attempted to provide us with decent service, it might have compensated for the long wait. That was not the case. When our food FINALLY came out, it was wrong of course. My burger came out well done with onions and my husband's grilled chicken sandwich was fried. The chips with the tacos were so stale they were inedible. We asked to see the manager and I told him that my burger came out wrong after waiting over an hour and all he did was say "Sorry, the kitchen is backed up." My burger was disgusting, but I choked it down because I didn't want to wait another hour for a new one. The manager didn't even offer me a new burger. My burger should have been comped, or at the very least my drinks. When we were ready for the check of course Dominique was MIA again (she never once came to check on us to see how the food was. In fact I barely even saw her in the dining room the entire night.) We had to flag her down and FINALLY she came over. We were offered a measly little dissatisfied discount on our meal and NO APOLOGIES and they charged us for the kids meal which was supposed to be free. Once again, impossible to find Dominique and I had to get another server to send out a search party for her. I had to wait again for her to have the check fixed. After being held hostage in this restaurant for over two hours, we finally got out. This was my first and LAST time eating at this place. I do not recommend it. The food is sub par and the service is LOUSY. Like I previously stated, kitchen in the weeds or not, the service was horrendous. DO NOT EAT AT THIS PLACE. You will be...

We came in and there was not a single worker in sight at first. There were only two tables sat. We saw someone near the bar and she wasn’t attentive to the front door because she didn’t greet us at all. There were no sighs that told us to seat ourselves so we waited a few minutes. Finally someone did come out the kitchen and told us to seat ourselves. We chose a booth and it was dirty, the seat and the table. Therefore, we got up and looked for a clean table and chose a 6 top table… one end of the table was dirty but the two seats we needed were clean. If there’s practically no one in the restaurant (two tables sat - 4 guests) there’s no excuse for dirty tables. The server was mediocre but he may have been new. Still no excuse for why we placed our drink and appetizer order and didn’t receive our drinks promptly afterwards. When he finally came back, he brought our drinks to us with our straws already inside and the straw was exposed. There was a fly in the window that I could hear buzzing so the fact that my straw was already in my drink exposed was a little concerning. The only reason I’m giving the 2 stars is because the food was pretty good and hot when brought out. We ordered seafood dip, mozzarella triangles, and a cheese burger and fries. I do not usually give reviews but this one had to be done. Went to lunch on a weekday. I was the ONLY person in the dining area and only two people seated at the bar. I walked in, stood for a good minute without any acknowledgement. I then walked over to the bar area where an employee was sitting at a high top sipping on her drink and playing a game on her laptop. I asked if I should pick anywhere I would like and she just walked past me WITHOUT words, picked up a menu and laid it on a table for me to sit at. She asked "What do you want to drink?" I told her and said that I actually knew what I wanted to eat already. She took my order, NOT A WORD CAME OUT OF HER MOUTH AT ANY POINT. Shortly after she brought my drink to the table and walked away. Then literally without skipping a beat in her walk, came down the aisle, tossed my food in front of me, still no words, and walked away. I had to get up half way through my meal, walk to the bar, and ask for a refill on my drink. I then had to walk up and ask for my bill, all while she is back to sitting at her laptop. I do not know where the times of being the best at your job has failed but I surely will never understand an employer that does not stress the importance of best practices which involves customer service.
