*Updated: I’ve ordered from here twice more since my review, and I have to say that it’s altered my review and perception of this place. On my second visit, I ordered the chicken tikka pizza for dinner and it was nothing special. It lacked any flavor or the tikka sauce, which we were expecting from the name. It was just chicken with regular cheese and some veggies. My husband and I had to season it to make it tasteful. We were both very underwhelmed by it. The third visit I got chicken and rice combo because I was curious about their fries. Honestly, I would skip the fries next time. It’s not worth it. They come in a very small wax pocket and they’re very greasy and don’t taste clean. They seemed to have been cooked in a fryer that needed its oil changed out because it was dirty crumbs fried stuck into it which I had to peel off. Some fries were stuck together. I ended up breaking off bits and pieces of the ends and extra fried crumbs off the fries. It wasn’t appetizing. Overall, I’m a bit disappointed by the quality of the foods. So far the chicken over rice is the only good thing worth buying. —————————————————————————— This was my first time ordering from here. I did online ordering to save time. After reading the positive reviews, I decided to take a chance and chose the chicken over rice for myself and the lamb gyro for my husband. I picked up the order and brought it back home to have lunch with my husband. He said the lamb was tender and the gyro was overall good. However, one critique was that they used too much white sauce that it was sloppy and made it difficult to eat. The gyro is on the smaller side. My chicken and rice were very tasty. The chicken was tender and the rice was soft. I really enjoyed the white sauce which adds a lot of flavor to the dish. Something about the red sauce reminded me of Frank’s hot sauce. I hope that’s not what they’re using. Overall, the dish was good. I just wished that there was more of the sauce because there was still chicken and rice left uncovered by the sauce and it needed it. The iceberg lettuce was mediocre. I wish they gave more chopped tomatoes and onions to balance out the heaviness of the chicken and rice. Next time I’ll try their gyro with fries. I’ll definitely come back to...
Read moreFrom NYC and miss some good halal from those food carts? I tried Halal Munch today with high hopes and was thoroughly impressed with the food and service. I got the lamb over rice, and it tasted just like how it does in New York. I used to work as a street vendor in NYC and worked right next to a halal cart, so I've had my share of halal food on the street for years. This place has the lamb you are looking for.
The pieces of lamb are those little juicy tasty squares that you would expect from any halal cart. The white sauce and hot sauce on top make it even more yummy to eat. I also got some pita bread on the side. My only critique would be that they did not cut the pita into triangles like they do at the halal carts but no biggie. They did heat it up, though, which was good to see.
Overall, I ate the entire plate, which was a good portion, and could have eaten another one if I had another to eat. That is how good it was to have a taste of NYC, which is extremely hard to find here in Harrisburg. Will be back...
Read moreI was once a regular customer at Halal Munch, happy to have a halal restaurant nearby. However, my recent experience was deeply disappointing. I placed my order, including a side of popcorn chicken, but decided to cancel the side within two minutes. Instead of handling it professionally, the cashier questioned my choice and challenged me about why I had ordered it in the first place.
When I arrived to pick up my order, I attempted to explain the situation, but the cashier was argumentative and unwilling to listen. The interaction escalated unnecessarily, leaving me frustrated and disappointed. Unfortunately, I had to discard the popcorn chicken as it was no longer useful to me.
I urge Halal Munch’s management to address this issue. Customer service is just as important as food quality, and interactions like this drive loyal...
