This was our first visit and it will also be our last. The food may be decent, or even good, but we didn't quite get that far. We arrived for a late lunch on a cold and rainy Tuesday (about 130 pm) and our server mentioned that we were only her 2nd table since noon. There weren't 10 customers in the entire place, which makes our subsequent service issues even more of a mystery. After a review of the menu, we ordered two appetizers and drinks, then our server returned and took our entree orders. I requested some additional ice for my drink and we waited....and waited. After about 30 minutes since first ordering, she acknowledged the delay of our appetizers and that some food was sitting in the kitchen completed, but that the kitchen staff was already working on the rest of our order. Perplexed as to why she wouldn't bring the ready food, she said that she isn't the one to bring the food to us (really?). After another 10 minutes, someone from the kitchen (with long hair not in a pony tail or net) brought out one of the appetizers and my entree. The second appetizer and entree was missing. We had no plates, our drinks were now empty, and I never did receive the extra ice. As we waited for plates, we tasted a bite from each platter - lukewarm at best. We remained polite but decided at that point to send the food back and "cut bait" and asked for our check for the drinks. Food took too long, arrived out of order, wasn't hot and we were still needing drink refills and plates to begin eating. It took another 10 minutes for our server to get approval from her manager and make change for our $8 purchase. The manager never stopped by our table to discuss the multiple errors and apologize for not meeting expectation. Aside from the kitchen and service issues, the restaurant aesthetic and temperature were both a bit chilly and unremarkable. After a total of 65 minutes in the restaurant, we moved on to have lunch at Lucky Bones Backwater Grill, with a much...
Read moreMy favorite hang-out for good food, good service, good people. Sara(h) and J.P. are great behind the bar. So is another gentleman, though I don't know his name yet. They have the best burgers you'll find anywhere in the area at very low prices, and astonishingly low on Sundays. Oh, and there are burger and other specials on Mondays too! The margherita pizza with red sauce is very good! And I have been going there every Tuesday, when there is anither menu with great specials, for the tacos! I figured the Red Brick tacos, up a dollar from the regular ones, would be worth it, and I was right! Three of them hit the mark and fill me up. But I just got a look at the lava shrimp tacos, and they look incredible, so next Tuesday I'm upping my game and getting the 2 lava shrimp tacos and one Red Brick one. And if you're a single female, come in and talk to me. I love to talk, drink, eat, laugh and have a good time. Oh, and Sara and J.P. know how to make good drinks too! I'm partial to margaritas. But I also figured that a couple extra dollars spent for a Cabo Cooler would be worth it, and I was right again! Tasty, delicious and effective! It's my drink with the tacos. So you'll find me there most Tuesdays, and It is entirely possible that you may catch me there for pizza, burgers, nachos, or anything else on a menu filled with so much to discover. Though I sit st the bar most often, there is an adjacent dining room, and I have dined in there both with a friend and solo, and have gotten friendly and good service from the wait staff there. It's relaxed and comfortable and has a good vibe. You never feel rushed. Oh, there is bingo trivia night a couple nights a week that a lot of people like. It can get a bit loud if you're in the dining room then. I don't really play. I go there for the food, drink, service and people. The pic is of the Cabo Cooler.and the Red...
Read moreHave an allergy? Be extra careful here! We were lied to.
I enjoy the food and the atmosphere here, so I decided to take my boyfriend. Because he's allergic to seafood, I called ahead to ask if the restaurant uses separate fryers. (French fries fried in the same oil as fish are just as dangerous for someone who's allergic as eating the fish itself.) The person who answered the phone assured me enthusiastically that yes, they do use separate fryers.
It's a good thing we double-checked with the waitress when placing our order. There's no separate fryer. When I told her we called to check, she went to have a chat with the young man at the liquor store counter who answered the phone. We watched as he started laughing, like he thought it was funny to lie to us. Thankfully, our waitress wiped the smile off his face.
Not only should the whole staff--including the host--be educated on allergies and cross-contamination, but they should also be taught how serious the situation is. If he didn't know the answer, he could have asked someone. He chose to lie to me, and his lie could have landed us in the emergency room and his employer in a lawsuit.
We asked to speak to the manager to tell him about the host and about how well our waitress handled the situation, but there was no manager that night. I emailed the restaurant but got no reply. Their poor response is what earns them two stars. (The food is really great, for those of us who can eat it.)
People with food allergies have to be responsible for their own safety, but it's hard to do that when someone who doesn't understand the seriousness of the situation lies to you.
(PS, if you're in the same boat and searching for a place that takes allergies seriously, try...
